How do the players already on the roster not getting this money feel about this? NIL needs to be earned and not just given to freshmen who look good in the uniform

This will correct itself

It’s very hard to project how an 18 year old will pan out.

Seems to be pretty damn hard to project how 21-22 years ago olds will pan out too. Lots of NFL draft busts.

A transfer to a new team the following year.

You could say the same for current LSU football HC even though he isn't a college player.

I’m sure it will break their spirit to know a McDonald’s burger flipper is laughing at them.

Texas Tech must have a few oil tycoons. They are dishing out money across all the sports

1.6 or so per year which is more than 5% of the 20.5 Million most schools have. So I wonder what a starter on the OL will make. At this rate they wont have anything left for the punter or the starting TE.

The few billionaires that are all-in on softball have seen their money get them to a final. I'm surprised they didn't make a bigger push in football sooner

Do you hate money?

All you have to do is a couple of years, then you can do whatever you want for as long as you live.

Random dudes on a message board calling that guy an idiot.

This. Everyone can relax. One of two scenarios will manifest

1. He lives up to expectations and a Texas poaches him before his Junior season
2. He doesn’t live up to expectations

Repeat this enough times and the spigot gets shut off

And if you recruit exclusively mercenaries they will be playing games every single offseason. They have no prayer of stability if that’s their identity

Wait so is this revenue sharing pot like a salary cap? I thought it was basically a pot that got divided evenly amongst all the athletes similar to the extra cash cost of attendance stipend that came around in 2014 or so.

Why is this a problem in a capitalist society? At least the money is spent with stipulations and not out of pocket. They've been shooting from the hip too long.

Because not everything is about juicing the absolute most economic value out of it. I’m a staunch capitalist as there is no other system generally with its level of freedom.

But this isn’t supposed to be a purely economic endeavor. It’s a college sport. Not even technically a professional one. I have seen a sport fueled with passions and century old traditions basically exploded from the foundations up in the last 5 years.

Is there an economic problem here? No. But there’s a caring problem. As in I basically don’t care about college sports even close to as much as I did 5 years ago.

Call me crazy but I’ve been going to Lubbock every quarter for work for a decade and it’s come a long way.

I enjoy going and walking around by campus. They’ve got some nice spots

Give me that over College Station any day of the week. It’s also 5:30 hours to Taos and the NM mountains and 3:30 to Ruidoso mountains.
