I'm not totally familiar with MLB HOF election process, but isn't this good for some ol' timers that should be in but haven't received the votes yet?

I'm kind of shocked at this TBH. Like, really?
Another poster in the thread made a good point. They put just about anybody on the list that played 10+years. Obviously doesn’t mean they will ever make it but they at least get on the list.
I don’t mind it at all. It’s a cool thing for the players like Moreland to show their kids, grandkids etc

Posey the only hall of famer, but I can see an argument for Lester.
200 wins, almost 2500 Ks. Postseason hardware. Career compares favorably to Jack Morris. Looking through his CV surprised he never won a Cy Young

I would not lead protest marches if Don Mattingly got in or Dale Murphy for that matter, they're two of my favorite players ever.
Two things that piss me off about my boy Donnie Baseball:
-the strike the year the Yanks were in first and headed to the post-season. I can remember the interview with Don back then and he looks GUTTED that the strike torpedoed his best shot at the WS.
-the Yanks went to the postseason right before and right after he was a Yank.
That strike put me off of baseball for years and years. I was a kid. Don was my guy (LH 1B, I'm LH and loved 1b). Wanted to be him. I hated that happened to him.

I saw your thread title and thought, "it can't be that bad."
I was wrong. That's bad.
Edit: reading through the thread I see they put all 10+ year players on the candidate list. That makes sense.

Don Mattingly was a hoss, the kind of guy you want playing on your team. Utmost respect for him.

That’s just a list of guys that retired 4 years ago. So what?
Posted on 4/7/26 at 5:56 pm to TheFenceGuy
What they should do is just acknowledge the steroid era and start putting all those guys in. Throw an asterisk by their name or something with a caveat that says they juiced
Otherwise this is the crop of players that will go in from now on. Average players that played for a long time, which another poster claims, is a hell of an accomplishment
Yeah it is an accomplishment but that shouldn't be an entry into the HoF before guys that actually made baseball interesting in the late 80s, 90s and early 2000s
If this is the crop then none of them deserve to get in
Maybe Brett Gardner, but that is it

Being a state fan I’m a big fan of Mitch Moreland but in no way is he close to a HOF’er
Of course he’s not close. Literally nobody thinks he is.

MLB will put pressure for Posey, need something for the induction ceremony that will bring live fans
Bonds, Clemens. It’s easy. Why the frick is doper David Ortiz in before these two?

Only other guy on the list that should ever get in is Lester.
No

Because Ortiz is chummy with the media and Clemens and Bonds were surly.

Not "just about anybody." The eligibility requirements are: Played 10 years in MLB within a 20 year timeframe (ie. Pete Rose will not be eligible for this ballot as he last played more than 20 years ago), retired for 5 years, not on the ineligible list.
Anyone who meets that criteria gets on the ballot. From there you have to garner 5% of the vote to remain on the ballot

Steve Carlton, Jim Rice and Eddie Murray weren’t chummy with the media and they got in.
