So many great pairings throughout, but I am most interested to see the D4NS semifinal matchups. OCSvsOC and CreekvsCC look to be some absolute tilts. In a 1 game matchup I honestly think those are absolute coin flips.

Ruston has one really good arm in Roach, the rest of the staff is solid, and if landing off speed can be really good HS pitchers, if not, no fastballs to be terribly nervous about.

Not going to hit the ball out of the park, hit line drives and have a ton of speed and are really good on the basepath, if your pitcher is not good with runners on they will have a field day on the bases, they are really good at exposing that. Game 1 our pitcher was slow to the plate and they feasted, Game 2 i think they had 1 or no SB. Dont recall a bunch of bunts but hit and run is part of the game it seemed.

Defensively one of the better outfields you will see, they can cover some ground, balls in the gap that look like doubles are caught easily.

They wont score in bunches without your help, but if you make errors and cant defend, they can add them up.

Just a really solid baseball team in just about all areas. We split with them, and beat them 8-4 in a clean game, they whipped our arse in game 1 as we booted it around, threw behind a runner, and other self inflicted crap. They still beat us without the errors, so not taking anything away from them, but not 9-1

Prob not, but there is no fun in picking the 1 all the time That and in the two games I saw Sterlington play with Downs pitching, they just looked good...not great. South Beau has been really consistent and is playing good ball right now, if anyone takes them out on that side I think they have a shot.

Probably, but in looking, it looks like St Charles played a decent schedule and has been in a lot of tight games. I give that a little weight in looking for possible upsets.

Luker is throwing lights out, and the Doiron kid can throw if he is healthy, don’t know if he is hurt but haven’t seen him mentioned so I assume. so I give them a solid punchers chance if they can throw him in the quarters and finals. Yes, Op Cath beat the hell out of them earlier in the year, but these smaller schools can turn on a dime if you have the right arm on the mound, I dont think anyone really wants to face him in a one game deal.

Their draw is tough but they would be the most surprising 1 seed not to win a championship

It’s stupid. Not only bc it’s inner district, but teams you would play anyway.

What’s the alternative? I don’t see how you could avoid matchups like that

It used to be #1 and #2 from districts then at large. I believe that is what it was before select/non-select with districts mixed BS. That is when winning district actually meant something.

same way in dang near everysport since the wildcard, made worse by the split.

prior to wildcards teams would not see district foes until finals.

then i remember two district foes ranked in the top ten meeting first or second week of playoffs. first year of wildcards.

BM should cruise to the semis, and I'd expect either Rummel or STM. BM swept Rummel this season. Rummel doesn't have alot of scary pitching after Nugent. I don't know much about STM.

I take BM v STM in the semis on the top side.

Catholic should also cruise to the semis, and I'd expect Jesuit or Curtis. Jesuit is the more fundamentally sound team but Curtis is very athletic. Curtis will have to pitch very well to win.

I take Catholic v Jesuit in the semis on the bottom side.

STM has given BM problems in multiple sports. I still think BM gets by, even if it's in 3. BM has 3 solid starters and 3-4 trusty relievers plus some other arms. STM will probably have to beat them in 2 or use a bunch of their pitching before game 3, unless STM is deeper than I expect.

Jesuit could nickle and dime with Catholic, but won't beat them unless Catholic implodes like BM did against Jesuit in game 2. Catholic just almost never plays poorly.

BM v Catholic for the rematch. They are 2 different teams this season. BM lost all of the experienced Little League kids but this group seems hungry. They're deep on the mound and mostly swing the bats well. They start a 9th grader at 1B, they've struggled against small ball, and teams have been able to swipe bags against them, though. Catholic is obviously the best team in D1 Select, even with their own key losses to graduation, plus they get Lawrence back. To beat Catholic, you have to play almost perfect, run into some balls, and get some luck.

I don't see Catholic losing. In order for BM to win their first title since 1996, they may need somebody to sneak up on Catholic before the finals. Otherwise, it will take BM catching a bunch of breaks. Or, maybe BM gets them deep in the staff in games 1 and 2, and just outgrits them in a game 3 thriller.

Catholic sweeps BM again.

Chalmette is also a large school and some families don’t want that

Finally yes a little bit of white flight type stuff… don’t want the kids to go to school with “those” people

All would be fixed if Chalmette opened two more high schools like they had before Katrina. St. Bernard high for the down the road folks and somewhere for an AJ type magnet school.

Buuuuttttt nooooooooo. Ficking dumbasses

Mandeville is very well coached and they've bought in. They beat Catholic 2 of 3 about a month ago and went en fuego after that. Greyson Parker and Sam Marse are the workhorses but they have arms. Several kids that can hit. Winchester is a young kid with a lot of potential.

That's what they've done nearly every game.
Team 1.66 ERA, given up more than 4 runs only twice all season. 4 starters and a reliable bullpen. Hitting is Curtis issue. Bats get hot, watch out.

If you bat flip, throwing at your head is encouraged by the entire community it seems.

Their ace is good. They shot up 4-5 spots the last day or two of the season.
