Tiejh Banoot (sp?) just went over a guard rail and split his bike in half.
He’s okay though

The way that bike split? Never seen that before.

Yeah, top tube, seat tube, and seat stays all just snapped the saddle and the pieces were just hanging by the brake cable. I would love to see an analysis of the failure.
Glad he seems to be OK. Benoot also has that crazy crash in last year's Paris-Roubaix when the Jumbo team car pulled in front of him and he crashed into it smashing out the back window then the motorcycle following him crashed and fell onto him, I this think he broke his collarbone.
Jumbo looks to be in great form for this tour. Early days but they just seem stronger and more organized than Ineos.

I thoroughly enjoy watching this Jumbo squad.

I think Stage 8 Alaphillipe loses Yellow and Jumbo takes complete control. You got Col De Mente and de Bales in same stage that is a 1 and HC. It is a shame Alp D'Huez is off the schedule. But there is de la Madeline and that last climb at very end of the race stage 18 I believe?

Kuss could be special in a couple years.. Roglic will win this year I think. Bernal couldn't match the acceleration at the end.

I think it is 17 with the cold de Loze. I still think stage 20 has the potential to be influential it is a ITT with a uphill finish at the end of a Cat 1 climb. A good time trailer that can climb AND has gas left in the tank can make a serious move.

Apparently lil Caleb Ewan hit 1610 watts right before the line yesterday. That is 2.16 horsepower! He could be the prototype sprinter of the future, tiny and powerful. He is super aero with a tiny frontal area compared to the "normal" sprinter.
I guess the days of me explaining away why I am not a tiny little elf by saying I am a sprinter are gone.

We’ve had this play out before with Cavendish although Cav might have been just a couple more pounds heavier.

Robbie McEwen won a lot of races and some green jerseys too.

To a degree but the Manx Missle was 4 or 5 inches taller than Ewan. You couldn't pick Ewan out of a pack of South American climbers at least by height. When a 5'4" sub 150lb guy can put out 1600w at the end of a fairly high tempo race day everyone else is going to be in trouble. He simply had another gear yesterday.

Oh, he’s fast as hell. He only might have problems on a tight road and get boxed.

Just heard that on Lance's podcast, wow.
Would be really cool if they could get the real-time power data and put it on the screen. I was wondering how much they were putting out.

The more I think about it the more in awe I am.
Take Jeffrey Hoogland for example. Classicly built track sprinter at 6' 1" and 214 pounds. He put out 2000w while setting the 200m TT record. Now, this is a much longer sprint than Ewan's but Caleb produced his peak after a relatively fast tempo 194 km with three 3rd cat climbs and a 4th cat climb.
Hoogland's output was 20.56 watts per kg
Ewan's output was 23.93 watts per kg
We are also talking about a peak vs a longer sustained power but it is still amazing to me.

Roglic definitely outgunned them all at the end yesterday. My only question is, like the booth guys said post-race, whether the Bernal or other South American can perform better in the high altitude longer climbs.
With Jumbo laying down a pace like Postal in the old days, looks like it will be hard for one of them to get away.

Random question: Any of you have a brand of cycling socks that you particularly like?
