WTF ...Alaphilipe assessed a 15 second penalty for a reason no one knows yet..so Adam Yates moves to the Yeloow Jersey..what in the actual frick? This is going to get interesting and very hotly disputed
ETA: He took a feed in the final 20km ...which happens so often. This is bullshite, no one has EVER been assessed a 15 second penalty for that..EVER

cycling socks
First, I will say off all cycling clothing I am least picky about socks, I could wear any old pair of athletic socks and not notice the difference.
That said I have worn DeFeet Aireator socks pretty much exclusively for years. If you care they are made in the US from recycled material. I like that they have lots of designs and they seem much more durable (look better after tons of washings) than many of the others I have tried. They do feel cooler than a lot of other socks I have worn outside the shoe but I don't notice a difference with the shoes on but my feet don't get hot riding. More than once on forums I have seen the referred to as the gold standard.

Well. That's not true. Froome was penalized for the same thing (20 seconds) in 2013 for taking a feed illegally in the final kilometres.

I was just mimicking the announcers on the uncut ad free feed saying they can't recall that ever happening. SO if it has, my bad. Still bullshite.

Tomorrow should be fun
I wish they had put the end at the top of the Col de la Luzette since there is over 14km after that will possibly bring the field back together.
As an aside, it is clear the peloton is not going to let a breakaway get very far ahead at all, which they often do this early. I think teams very much have the COVID testing on the rest day in mind. It would be bizarre for the Tour to be ended and some guy that just got a lot of time via a long unchallenged breakaway wins.
I imagine Julian Alaphilippe, Quick-Step and most of France are pretty pissed right now. However, it was stupid, a GC contender should never be taking a bottle except from a teammate in or out of the forbidden zone. That is a domestique job, the only time they should take a bottle from a non-cycling team member is to take a "sticky bidon" from the team car when they are getting back up to the peloton after a crash or mechanical.

Do not buy ankle socks

Noted.
The SO wantes to know what I wanted for my birthday. She buys me socks every year anyway so I figured may as well get some cycling specific ones if she's buying them.
...just no telling what flagrant design I'll be wearing in the near future now though

The team manager and director were pissed at the team member at fault. They said everyone knows the rules, and they just screwed up.
Manager:
quote:
"It's very hard but there is a rule. And if we apply it severely to others, then it's the same for us," Lefevere said to Le Parisien.
"The yellow jersey is not above the others. If nobody had warned the riders that we couldn't refuel in the last 20 kilometres, then it would be different. But everybody knew that – although clearly someone in our team didn't."
Director:
quote:
"It's a special Tour, everybody has to be careful with the bottles and we have to stay away from the public, too. So were the circumstances as to why we missed the 20-kilometre mark by two kilometres. We made a mistake, and there's nothing we can do about it.
"Of course, in cycling, that means losing your jersey if you fall, have a flat tyre, a mishap or if you come across someone stronger than you," Lefevere said. "But to lose it for such stupidity... What's more, the person who committed this stupidity is from our team.
"And so nobody can be happy. I'm not. Julian didn't deserve to lose it like that, but the rules are the same for everyone. It's unbelievable."

Y'all know they are not going to let DQS get away with anything this tour due to how hard Patrick Lefevere has been going after the uci lately on course design and safety

Powless really wants that stage win on his birthday. But I don't see it.
