The ITT tomorrow should be ROG to lose. He just seems to be on a mission. I am not sure he did not mind losing the Red yesterday totally. It was a minimal loss and just the way he is carrying himself after stages and during cool downs, he seems different than before and others.

In TdF news I saw they are visiting a new mountain pass in 2021. I saw Tourmalet is back as well. I just wished they would have Ventoux D'Huez and a TTT up one of the mountain passes.

going up Mont Ventoux twice in 1 stage

ETA: stage 11... up Ventoux twice and a finish at the end of the descent

They have done that before or was it Huez they did that?

I think going up the Tourmalet would be harder twice as the roads are not as nice and more switchbacks.

Am I just dumb in thinking a Team Trial up a mountain that’s rated 1 or HC would be drama?

I always love a TTT but a HC finish on a TTT would be carnage. Can you imagine the bike changeover? Keeping enough riders together over the line could cause some sprinter's hearts to explode.

American Will Barta ALMOST won the stage Roglic snuck in one second quicker.

Rog too 1st
Barta 2nd
Carthy 4th +25
Carapaz 7th +49
D. Martin 13th +1:17
Mas 16th +1:43

GC

1 Roglic back into red
2 Carapaz +39
3 Cathy +47
4 D. Martin +1:42
5 Mas +3:23

Lumpy stages for the next two days, Friday has two real climbs but the last climb is 40k from the end so we will likely go into Saturday with the same times. Saturday ends at the top of the Covatilla and will be the race decider before the procession into Madrid on Sunday.

Isnt it just top 4 that count in a TTT? So they could "grupetto" their way up an HC while getting same time as the GC or climbers have. Just have to finish the stage within say an hour...I do not know the actual time percentage.

4th rider when a race 8 person teams 5th when a race has 9 person teams.

You are correct that dropped riders can just roll on in but they still need to bury themselves as long as possible to help the team. Each rider lost is that many more pulls the remaining riders have to take. Of course depending on the profile extra riders might make no difference on the last (possibly only) climb except mentally.

That’s only true to the extent that they still make the time cut. Get dropped early and you’re in for a world of hurt to not miss the time cut.

Absolutely, but the cutoff times are relatively liberal. That said a bad day and a sprinters body could indeed equal a personal hell for a while but probably better than getting dropped on the first climb of a long climbing day.

Finishing on a descent null and voids a lot of that

Well, the Vuelta is over save the sprint at the end tomorrow.

Roglic was able to hang on and though he lost time he pulled it out. Guillaume Martin wins the stage and interestingly we talked about Cofidis not winning anything in forever they have a GT stage win today and he wins the climbers jersey convincingly.

GC
Rog
Carapaz +24
Carthy +47

Rog wins the Green jersey as well

Mas wins the white jersey

Martin wins the climbers jersey

Jumbo has had a great year and Ineos is better than I could have ever expected given the form of Froome and Bernal along with the Thomas crash. Winning a GT and coming in a close second is a great year for most teams but with basically no help (save one valiant effort from Froome) from their top 3 GC guys is amazing. I still don't like them though.
