Some of the proposals are really good ideas. Social security should not be taxed, for example.

Why? Is income? The option would be to pay them less, tax free instead of pay them the same and tax it. But the issue with this is that most people on Social Security are also getting income from additional resources, so you have to then add their income up to get the total tax due. This is why social security is "taxed".

If you make under a certain amount because you are only on social security, you essentially aren't paying taxes already anyway....

Or you just don't include it in income at all and its not an issue. To me SS is SS, and income is income.

In a super basic sense the government takes SS out of our paycheck and sends it to someone currently getting benefits. You just took the entire amount from someone's check, why are you dipping your fingers in it again?

Most on SS are spending that money. Its not going into a bank or investment account, its getting used and going back into the economy.

Its still taken out of your check. The best dollar is the one I can have right now, not the one I can get via a "refund" in the spring.

Trump is going to do whatever the frick he wants to do. Say goodbye to simple, common sense rules like conflict of interest. Why do you think Elon is campaigning for Trump? It's not because he likes Trump, he likes dollars.

If Elon can gut even 20% of the waste out of the government, we'd have a significantly lower tax burden.

Elon can write a memo to Congress on his budget proposals, they will use it to wipe their asses, and Trump will sign whatever spending bill they send him like he did the first 4 years.

However, my question then goes to do they redefine OT. Most people are familiar with the “anything over 40 hours in a predefined 7 consecutive day week”; but there are many companies (maybe even Cali as an entire State) that define OT as anything more than 8 hours in a day, and further clarify anything more than 12 hours would be double pay.

Cali has always had some very employee friendly laws. I bartended out there for a summer a long time ago. If I hit +40 hours for a week and +8 hours for the day on a Sunday they were paying me like $26 per hour for that double time.

Agree…it’ll never happen. One issue here is it’s essentially a form of welfare at this point. We’ve got people getting paychecks to do nothing but push paper.

There are almost 3 million people working for the federal government. You’d be putting thousands of people out of work. I would love to see them reduce spend but highly doubt they will.

I mean, this is the guy that admitted to replacing workers so he wouldn't have to pay overtime. The guy is nothing but an opportunist.

At the rally in Erie, Trump touted his own familiarity with overtime pay, from his time in the private sector. “A lot of people don’t give,” Trump said. “I know a lot about overtime. I hated to give overtime.”

Trump then reminisced about how he would bring in new employees to replace those who were supposed to go on overtime. Though he seemed to realize there were some political liabilities to his recounting of the story.

“I shouldn’t say this, but I’d get other people in,” Trump said. “I wouldn’t pay. I hated it.”

I thought Republicans were budget hawks? Our government will drown in debt if these moves are made which, perhaps, is the point.

Use to see them that way too. They lost their way fiscally following DT.

As someone who works with companies that contract with the Federal government on a daily basis, I promise you could eliminate 1 out of every 2 government jobs and no one would be able to tell the difference.

Haha. I hope this is a joke.

What about bonuses? A lot of people have to work over 40 hours to achieve the milestones that earn those bonuses. Same thing really, extra time to earn extra money.

I doubt either candidate will manage to change payroll taxes after the election.
