Say this again please. Because you said Trump is hurting the economy and the stock market in one post. But then you admitted that most of our economy is not affected by the Tariff. ETA: Which is the entire issue with our country's viewpoint on these Tariffs.

What’s confusing?

We’re going to pay for this in the short term. That hurts us.

The benefits are a long way off in all likelihood.

wtf are you talking about alter?

Trump has rolled out there tariffs in the most haphazard way. That’s not debatable.

He literally paused his own tariffs within 48 hours, and I’m supposed to believe that’s part of the plan?

We did first you dolt. The administration immediately backed off trumps threat of aluminum tariff increases.

You don’t have the mental capacity or intellectual honesty to understand any of this. Bless your heart.

The short term market is not his concern, obviously.

And it should not be.

Isn’t mine, either.

This is obviously correct. Tariffs are bad because they make nations poorer.

The market is just a symptom of that.

It would be horrible Econ policy to make the market your first priority. It would mean you can’t pursue balanced budgets, spending cuts, healthcare reform, prudent tax increases, etc because all those things would cause market drawdowns.

Thanks for proving my point. Trump proposed 50% aluminum tariffs in response, the market fell over 1% on his post, then the White House immediately walked it back.

Ontario was much later in the day. Congrats.

Lastly, I voted for Trump 3 times. Has nothing to do with TDS and everything to do with his asinine approach here.

And I’m not suggesting otherwise.

What I am suggesting is something that resembles a well thought out plan rather than that of a teenage girl. We’re the country changing our mind daily.

How do you know they didnt do anything to avoid this? I have a huge developer freind who has told me all the major Solar Panel manufaturers are popping up plants here after the tariffs. Some were planned before but the tariff has forced them to speed it up within 12mnths vs 30yrs

Yet you dont hear anything about it

This market pullback is the worst kept secret ever. We spent the entire Biden administration trying to find a "soft landing". The foolish convinced themselves it happened, and last fall the fed made a misstep by cutting rates again.

I have been primarily in cash for over a year, and it's not because I'm some genius who can time the markets. PE ratios have been insane for quite a while. This pullback was and is needed.

I don’t have a problem with the tariffs as a tactic, but the implementation is moronic. Idc who you think I supported for president.

At this point it seems pretty obvious he is trying to orchestrate a mini recession early on - can "blame" the economy he was given.

I was having this exact thought. The market will rebound when he quits fricking with it, and then he will say “look my plan to fix it worked”, when in reality he just quit fricking with it

Missing out on a 23% return last year definitely reinforces this point.

Trump doesn’t care if the market drops this week. If his plan works, the market is fine long term. Trump doesn’t believe in incrementalism when negotiating. The American economy is a 800 pound gorilla and Trump will drop the hammer if he sees resistance. He wants America to win and will do whatever he needs to for that to happen. Unpredictability is also a tool he uses to his advantage. Other countries don’t know how he will react so they tend to toe the line. Trump is the first President in my lifetime to give a damn about the country and not be afraid to take chances to fix a broken system.

He absolutely cares. Doubles tariffs the market drops 700 and the White House announces they won't go into affect and we'll continue to negotiate. Canada wasn't the one who blinked.
Trump also said today he doesn't think we'll have a recession. The reverse of what he said Sunday in the Fox interview.

Regardless of your opinion of tariffs, this on again, off again, somewhat unhinged situation was a massive mis-step.

1- It's not unhinged. It's done with the purpose to get our so called "friends" to end their tariffs on us. If they do that, we will undo it. See Canada and Mexico.

2- The market isn't an issue. Our debt and trade is a massive issue. Either we fix the problem or the market is going to be the least of our concerns.
