I am leaning towards no but who knows I have been wrong in both direction so many times

Really interested to see q4 earnings in early 2024 after Xmas to see if holiday season was a big let down earning wise.

I trade the markets every day. Make a living from it. I have zero clue what the Dow is at now. It’s an irrelevant number. Nobody in the business cares about it.

Above.
Downside risks are significant. Probably won't drop the DJIA 7.5% in two months though.

That's interesting. I'm especially aware of market indices (gen & sector) in swing trades. Smaller deltas, and I'm less likely to pull the trigger.

I know what SPX is at and know is like the back of my hand. Same for ES NQ SPY, but I don’t think I’ve ever looked at Dow but maybe once in 4 years? 7 stocks are moving the whole market right now. Watch those plus volatility and treasuries and you have all you need to know.

I had to look it up too. To get under 30k it would have to basically take out last October low. Or might as well if it gets all the way down there.

Discuss…Dow is a meaningless index that is so dated it’s embarrassing it still gets referenced at all.

It’s something that every man on the street (who probably doesn’t know what SPX or NDX means) can relate to. So I guess it gives that broader audience something to reference… and gets those eyeballs to watch (ratings).

Is it useful for active traders or even passive investors? Certainly not very useful for active traders. And I don’t know that it would tell a passive investor much either.

All depends on what happens in the ME. If Biden/Netanyahu can contain the fallout from the Hamas attacks then markets should not factor it in. If shite goes sideways, and all out war ensues then the Dow tumbles. Because Arab nations would most certainly start banning global crude to western nations.

The S&P just death crossed.

Didn’t look at DOW but I would think it’s gotta be on a similar trajectory.

Not sure if there’s enough time to bottom out and golden cross before January 1.

The Dow is currently at 32k. If it drops below 30k by the end of this year, there will be far bigger things to worry about than the Dow.

If it goes below 30k, it won't be until next year.

Really? If it goes down 6%, that'll be super meaningful?

I always get a chuckle out of someone taking their time and caring enough to post in a thread just to tell everyone how irrelevant the thread is and how little they care about it...

If the DOW drops 2800 points in 60 days, something very bad has happened
