Wow, it only took LSU to not roster the players and the SEC to calm down for the media to finally push the real story instead of making LSU look like a villain here. Gee I wonder why?

Because they knew they were going to get their asses kicked in court and all this posturing by the league was exposing them to additional damages. Someone finally talked some sense into the leadership.

Sankey better hope that Goodell bails him out and let those guys join a practice squad. If he doesn't then Sankey and the SEC are about to get reamed in a lawsuit.

I'm glad Mcaffe mention the Sorsby lawsuit by the Big 12. That's where the SEC is getting this approach from. Sankey and his group didn't just come up with this they saw it work, in a VERY different situation, to force capitulation by a member school.
From a 30,000 foot view the conferences are taking the position that if the courts are ruling against the NCAA in these battles, then we are going to step in and argue we should be able to enforce our rules. Tech and Sorsby relented because theirs wasn't a fight for additional eligibility for a player who had exhausted his (completely arbitrary by the way - which will be the next fight) number of years of eligibility. It was a guy who was deemed ineligible for gambling.
That means the next fights by the players will be against the conferences themselves in addition to the NCAA. Eventually the battle will be that the conferences have a monopoly over the college football marketplace.
The SEC may feel justified that it "won this battle"...but doing so may very well cost them the war. Maybe that was always going to happen. But don't be surprised one day if history shows Sankey's decision to take direct action against LSU was the first major domino in the eventual end of the SEC. Of course, that would be on brand for the SEC and NCAA who seem to suffer from a total inability of foresight.

Goodell getting them on a practice squad still isn't going to save Sankey and SEC from a lawsuit.
Practice squad gets paid about $13-14K a week. Works out to around $247K for the year IF they stay on the practice squad for the entire season. That's less than they would have made playing for LSU and they could also claim that Sankey / SEC's actions caused them to lose opportunities for exposure that could have helped them earn even more.

Nah they’re still being retarded and proving their ignorance of the situation with virtually all of their commentary.
Rosenhaus was the only one who made any sense here.
Screwing these two guys was not “for the good of ball” and wouldn’t have opened any new doors or NFL to college pipeline. This was an NCAA transitional rule implementation gaffe… that’s it.

It's a good sign when Stephen A and ESPN's new daddy Patty Mac are either directly calling out the SEC or allowing the truth to get out there.

If I'm another school in the SEC my thoughts are....if they can do this to LSU, they can do this shite to us too. If I'm LSU, that's the message I somehow get out. Not from anyone at LSU, but somehow somebody else needs to float this out there.

The governors of all the other SEC states started getting pressure from Louisiana officials that the Wright/Harris lawsuit could expose their university officials and the league to civil discrimination charges and criminal collusion and conspiracy charges. The SEC still has not complied with a district court. Thats why today’s delay was a win for LSU.

This is my hypothesis as well. You had a lot of university presidents acting without a lot of oversight and engaging in brinksmanship. And last night and this morning there were a lot of calls between AGs and governors offices asking if they were aware what their university presidents were threatening to do. And whether they were ready to risk being on the hook for nine figures worth of damages.
