Absolutely. I know I “Hate” Bama every bit as much as any OSU/Mich fan hates the other. No doubt about it.

Nick Saban voted into Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame: 'I’m thrilled and honored' Guess some Louisiana voters thought enough of him to indoctrinate him into this organization. September 2019

Absolutely

As an alumnus of both LSU and Michigan, I'm certain you're "absolutely" wrong.

Uncalled for? He coached LSU to it's first national championship in 50 years...how is that uncalled for? And while at Alabama, he never disparaged LSU, despite the ridiculous hatred LSU fans spewed at him for over 15 years.

Agree. This is silly. Red Sox fans gave Derek Jeter a standing ovation in his last AB in Fenway. A select few deserve this type of sendoff. Saban and Jeter are two.

There is a big difference between the reactions of someone retiring from their job and someone dying… you are being obtuse

It appears some people in this thread are reacting as if Saban died

Been following LSU since I was born. We were plenty relevant even before the lull in the late 80’s during the end of Archer and Hallman.

You’re confusing relevance with being elite in today’s world.

Saban took a relevant program and pushed them into the threshold of being elite. You could also say, LSU helped push Saban into elite as well. Our resources and investment, as well as our talent, put him on the path he went down.

I don’t know the history of those two schools but is there an apples to apples example of an iconic coach that transformed both Ohio state and Michigan as well as the college football landscape?

Not apples to apples:

Woody Hayes coached Bo Schlembecler at the Miami University before taking the OSU job. Bo was on Woody's staff at OSU prior to taking the Michigan job (1951 as a GA and 1958-62 as an assistant coach).

Coaches are part of a fraternity… I would not be surprised that Bo had nice things to say after Woody’s death… But I seriously doubt the Michigan A.D. put out a statement on Woody after he retired

I don’t necessarily mind it but you gotta admit it’s a little weird.

As did every other college coach. Whether you want to admit it or not Saban coming to LSU in 2000 is what turned LSU into the powerhouse we enjoy today

There is no need for a sec rival to make a statement about any coach retiring. It isn’t like Saban is dead.
