Rafer "Skip" Alston is strongly against his son, five-star guard Reese Alston, playing for LSU and has heavily criticized the program's head coach, Will Wade.
Key Details of the Situation
• Opposition to LSU: Skip Alston made it clear that he did not want his son considering or committing to LSU Tigers men's basketball or communicating with their staff.
• Criticism of Will Wade: Skip Alston publicly blasted Will Wade, calling him a "sleazeball of an individual" and expressing disgust over how the recruitment process was handled despite his requests for contact to be cut off.
• Allegations: The elder Alston claimed there was an unauthorized back-alley deal involving a PUMA connection and mentioned that his wife, Ashley, may have accepted funds during the process without his authorization.
• Involvement of Authorities: Skip Alston stated that his legal team contacted the NBA after Wade allegedly continued pursuing the family against his explicit wishes.
• Commitment Conflict: Despite his father's strong objections, reports emerged indicating that Reese Alston committed to LSU and Will Wade, deepening the friction surrounding the recruit's decision-making process.

Whoa, that’s impressive! Wish them all the best. I have a son who’s a college athlete. It’s quite a joy.

2. His son (Reese), will be making his announcement on October 29th. On 247sports.
3. LSU is still heavily in the mix for Reese.
I always find these statements odd when a kid is getting ready to commit. If he's committing in 2 days you would think his mind is made up by now

kiffin and wade understand the modern game. parts of it are unfortunate, but so be it.
there are many amazing coaches who refuse to adapt. that does not mean they are bad at in-game coaching. but that barely matters if you have no talent. wade knows this and goes to great lengths to get talent.
"you win the Kentucky derby with thoroughbreds" - will wade.
But McMahon was bad at in game coaching.

What’s the backstory here? It’s been mentioned parents are divorced. Was it amicable? Does he live with his mother? Is the father the son’s agent? Why would the father contact the NBA?

Nate Oats had a player murder someone with a gun supplied by another players. The supplier of the gun didn't get suspended at all because he was Alabama's star player.
Bruce Pearl, as a young coach, secretly recorded a conversation with a player he was recruiting admitting to being offered benefits by another school, then tried to use it to put the other school on probation. He was essentially black-balled from D-1 coaching because of it.
Rick Pitino was essentially sanctioning an assistant coach to hire hookers to "service" recruits on visits.
The former Penn head coach pled guilty to money laundering and accepting bribes in exchange for getting a guy enrolled at Penn.
Kelvin Sampson got TWO programs put on probation. Same for John Calipari.
Don't forget the "Golden" boy over at Florida stalking and sending out dick pics to coeds at an alarming rate and then have that swept under the rug very efficiently and effectively by his big $$ booster.
And WW is the slimiest? IDK perverts are pretty slimy to me on a different level.

Comes off as a bit selfish if you ask me. Like I said… just my second hand perspective.

I dont understand Rafer saying there was an “unauthorized backhand deal” done. Is he saying that he didn’t authorize his 18 year old son and divorced wife to take a deal that is ultimately Reese’s call?
Edit: and is this is his wife or are they divorced?
This all sounds dumb, but i am intrigued.

Some rumors going around , Rafer was offered a job at another SEC school for the commitment of his son . Dad is mad that LSU didn’t offer the same and Reese wants to play for Wade . So sounds like this is just a disgruntled father who is making it ab him and not what makes his son happy

Absolutely none of this makes sense. Going off what the article says and assuming what TeamLSU has said is the truth which i have no reason to not believe, Wade bypassed the dad and communicated with only the mom and Reese including payments to the mom. Reese wants to go to LSU however the dad is strongly opposed to it to the point of publicly attacking the coach his son wants to play for and threatening legal action and calling the NBA about it. All while supposedly the family is extremely close and the parents are still together and the dad wants Reese to make his own decision. PLUS the fact that supposedly all these backchannel deals were organized by PUMA who also sponsors the league that the dad coaches in. Not a single ounce of that makes sense.

They aren't divorced.

maybe, I don't think the evidence was strong for that.
the claim was also made that McMahon was bad at developing players. corey chest was mentioned as an example. chest also failed to become much at ole miss and is now at mcneese.
mcmahon's failure was mostly because his players sucked. this was McMahon's fault. none of McMahon's players are in the NBA.

Coach Rafer is a character for sure. I may be wrong, but I just don't see him doing that type of thing just to build the hype.

I wouldn't be surprised about this. Some of the things I seen on the circuit this year was an eye opener for sure.

Knowing Coach Rafer as I do, I would say he is more pissed about the supposedly back door deal made by his wife. JMO

Nawww, at the end of the day, he is a PROUD father. This is based on what I saw and experienced first hand this spring and summer.

60-70 (17-55). Last/2nd to last in the SEC 3 of 4 years. The lowest winning % of any LSU basketball coach in 60 years Yes, not much evidence there

mcmahon's failure was mostly because his players sucked.
Or....maybe "they sucked" because they had a terrible HC? He had nearly 50 different players in his LSU tenure. McMahon was the lone constant across all 4 years. Usually, when the same bad results occur over a lengthy period of time one starts to look for the constants during that time.
That's like D student all throughout HS saying his poor grades weren't evidence that he is a moron. It was just 4 years of multiple bad teachers and really tough tests
He was the worst HC in any major sport at LSU in at least the past 50 years (maybe longer). Yet, for reasons unbeknownst to anyone with a modicum of critical thinking skills there is an ardent handful who seem determined to die on the hill that he was somehow a "good coach".
One day he and Curly Hallman can enter the "We were good coaches but everyone else around us sucked" HOF
