I haven't seen them come into relief in a while. Are they hurt or are they that bad?

almost like guys transferring in from high point, grand canyon and angelo state and getting it done should be looked at like the exception and not the rule. guys coming from schools like that should be undeniable.

I can promise you ,any rule you try to come up with in this game wont be a constant. the team that beat us yesterday is full of small school guys

This is just dumb. First of all, we don’t win the natty last year without transfers from small schools. We have returning pitchers who are worse than they were last year. Are we blaming the transfers for that too?

Trash schools with trash players

they were talking about one of those guys being a two way player before the season started. nobody knew he was going to be the best pitcher on the planet.

of course jay gets credit for skenes, eyanson, hernandez, dickinson. but ding him for bingham, yorke, caraway, yamin, dathe, simpson, etc.

Bingham and Caraway were from Arizona and Oregon State, traditionally successful legacy Pac-12 teams. Don’t forget to give them credit for the miracle work in 2022 when they brought in Gervase and Reyzelman from obscurity (Gervase has had a cup of coffee in the MLB).

I don't think he was ever intended to play a big role. He was essentially our dugout hype guy last year and then just stuck around probably because being at LSU is better than being somewhere like Dayton. He's been decent enough when he's been forced to play due to injury or other high profile transfers sucking arse.

Benge has been a matchup guy, primarily. Neither has very good numbers. The positive is that they have not given up home runs in their limited appearances.

Benge - 5.2 IP, 11.1 ERA, 2.12 WHIP, 1 wild pitch, 1 hit batter

Dathe - 5.1 IP, 8.4 ERA, 1.5 WHIP, 4 hit batters

Gervase was a juco transfer that committed to the prior staff after they saw him on Twitter.

Benge looked completely rattled at State. I don't think he's pitched since.

tbf oregon state wasn't exactly playing top competition in 2025 and Caraway was still shitty.

it seems crazy to pay a guy actual American dollars to be a hype man with no real intention of having him play and then cry about how much money LSU administration is giving to the baseball program re: rev share doesn't it?

so based on your logic LSU shouldn’t take any transfers from the portal considering Bingham is from a college baseball blueblood and Carraway was a full time starter at the most successful college baseball program not named LSU this millennium.

i didn't realize we were giving pat casey credit for trent caraway's illustrious 2025 season. hitting .264 with 12 bombs, 6 of which came in the postseason, against the level of competition they played in 2025 doesn't scream STARTING 3RD BASEMAN FOR THE DEFENDING NATIONAL CHAMPS THE POWERHOUSE.

Nearly all of Carraway's production came in the post season.

LSU wasn't breaking the bank for Edward Yamin. He was a multi year guy who had power potential and came in as the #3 catcher. Yamin being here is not the difference in not getting someone else you wanted because of rev share.

None of this is an exact science. You don't take certain guys because they come from certain schools, and you don't shun certain guys because they come from certain schools.

LSU's productive transfers have been from:

Air Force (Skenes)
NC State (White)
Utah Valley State (Dickinson)
UC San Diego (Eyanson)
UCLA (injured) (Jump)
Arizona (x2) (Cooper, Berry)
Alabama (Holman)
Indiana State (Hernandez)
Samford (McMannus)
D3/JUCO (x4) (Reyz, Gervase, Ack, Ulloa)
Kansas (Moore)
Auburn (Stanfield)
Wofford (Cowan)
Mt. Saint Mary's (Sheerin)
NDSU (Lachenmayer)

LSU's least productive transfers have been from:

Arizona (Bingham)
Vanderbilt (Little)
High Point (Simpson)
Xavier (Loer)
Oregon State (Carraway)
Grand Canyon (Yorke)
VCU (Nippolt)

Negligble difference transfers (these were tough to assign. Some lack of PT, some mixed bag, some little to no expectations):

Nichols (Mayers)
Kansas State (Dardar)
Arizona (Collins)
UCLA (Hurd)
Incarnate Word (Beck)
Dayton (Yamin)
D3 (Dathe)
JUCO (Harden, Reaves)
Oregon (Garcia)

I'm sure I'm missing some. I'm sure you'll disagree with some. Regardless, this shows how much of a crap shoot the portal is. If a guy hits .500 in the SEC? Yeah I can almost guarantee you he'll be good here. That's the only time when you can (almost) be sure that a guy will translate - if they were an absolute super star in a P4 conference. The issue is, those guys don't transfer very often at all. White was the exception here. UVA/MSU stuff this year was obviously different and unique.
