I was very young and new to Louisiana in 86’ and remember hearing about LSU being in the World Series seemed like every year from then till the early 90’s when I started to understand the setup of college baseball and how 8 teams get invited not just two like the pros.

I just remember as a young boy thinking they(LSU) must be the Yankees of college baseball to be in the World Series every year.

If you have SEC Network+ which is an extra fee. If you don't have that, you might get 10-15% of games televised. Youtube will have every game illegally streamed though, and that is how I watch.

Seemed like Texas, OSU, USC, Miami, FSU, ASU, and Stanford were in it every year.

Occasionally an SEC team such as MSU would make an appearance.

Best radio series..on the road v A&M... a loaded, loaded heavy fav... we small balled and pitched and clutch hit our way to a massive upset series win... I was trying to study for HS finals and keep up with an epic radio only series...

89 A&M series...on the road...via Radio only.... no business winning the double header to advance...catapulted LSU to persevere the next 35 years

Some slight corrections and additions to this post: We actually won the game 6-5. It was tied 3-3 in the top of the ninth when Long Beach scored two runs. I think we had 5 errors in the game including 2 in the top of the ninth. Mike Sirokta pitched a complete game for LSU. His pitch count was 157-159. Yes, you read that right.

In the bottom of the ninth, Armando Rios hit a two run double to tie the game at 5-5. Rios advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch. I could not believe they didn't walk Todd Walker and he did have 4 hits that day. Russ Johnson was on deck and he was an All-SEC shortstop, but Long Beach rolled the dice.

That was a late Friday afternoon game and LSU had to turn around and play Wichita State at noon on Saturday for the championship.

If you are young and have never seen the ending to this game, find it on Youtube and watch the bottom of the ninth. It will make you proud to be a Tiger. Watch the emotion on the face of Rios and Antonini. I tear up every time I watch it.

Edit: One more note I'll add. The announcer was Mike Patrick, who called so many great games over the years including the Earthquake game in 1988. He recently passed away. Steve Garvey was the color guy. Garvey was a former MLB player. Unfortunately, during Rios's double, Garvey stepped all over Patrick's call of the play. Color guys need to know when to shut up.

Remembering it well, I was listening to LSU CWS and pulled over to hear the 9th inning shot heard around the world. May have been the 90s

I remember being at Advanced Infantry Training at Fort Benning Georgia in the summer of 1991 and my mom telling me(over the pay phone) LSU finally won their first College World Series. I remember being pretty excited at the time. Nobody else really cared, lol, but I did.

I remember the two main options to watch/listen to the games back then were either to catch them on WWL AM or stay up until some crazy time like 1030 or 1130 and ESPN would occasionally do a shortened highlight of the game that would take like 30-45 minutes to watch. Sometimes New Orleans news would have a score or highlights but in the early days late 80's that wasn't always a sure thing. Once LSU started going more regularly and started winning coverage at home got easier.

I think about the challenges to watch the games now when everyone complains about SEC+/ESPN+. That would have been so welcomed back then

I was really referring to the teams that were staple in CWS BEFORE LSU was in the conversation. So basically 1980-1985, since LSU's first appearance was in 1986.

The teams you mentioned were basically present in CWS that LSU were at.

Ironically, all six of the teams that I listed from the memory of a 6-12 year old are the same six programs that currently have more appearances than LSU.
