I thought he did an excellent job of proving his ability when he had the interim position. When it came time to offer him the job I was on board and not worried whatsoever. Did I think we would have a season like last year… Absolutely not. That was definitely one for the record books but Coach O is a great recruiter, a good coach, and smart enough (now) to hire good people and let them run their paces. Les never saw the light on the latter which ultimately was his downfall.

Some of this was because of bad decisions he made though

Agree for the most part this has been the difference

Likewise, I thought Sleepy Joe bungled the search & made a lazy hire.

Glad to have been wrong. CEO has turned out to be a great fit.

When CLM refused to move his buddy Cam out as OC, I knew it was a matter of time for him.

No, but we should fire him if loses twice to horrible Arkansas teams a week after shitting the bed against 'bammer.

I loved Les but he absolutely had to go.

I was happy for O.

I was tired of other coaches using LSU as leverage for other jobs.

I wanted a coach whose dream job was LSU. Coach O fit that criterion. I was willing to give him a chance. And by that, I mean get his players, his coaches, and time to implement his plan.

I was OK with O.

Well that was what Ole Miss thought when they replaced David Cutcliffe with O, and probably what Tennessee thought when they replaced Fulmer with Kiffin.

O turned out to be a great hire but I thought it was a lazy knee jerk hire at the time. I'm so glad I was wrong and hope he can maintain this level of excellence going forward.

This is true. No amount of evidence or data pointed to O being any good.

The only people that thought so were "Louisiana homers," just liking that he was from LA, or hated Les so much that anything was better, or just had blind faith.

Good for them beating the data, but anyone who says they knew O would be good from a football perspective is probably lying.

I thought he was an upgrade, but I also thought Les was terrible.

This was my preferences:

1 Jimbo
2 Herman

3 Mullen

4 Coach O

Have to admit, I wanted Herman. Glad it didn’t go my way.

I suspect he moved to Kansas. Like Les, he was proven wrong. He couldn't take it any longer once Orgeron made it look so easy.

I was glad we didn’t hire Jimbo or Herman. I didn’t think that either was the right coach for LSU. I wasn’t a fan of Jimbo because he was underperforming at FSU. His last year there, in particular, was dumpster fire. I also thought that he should have been consistently dominating the ACC, but he wasn’t. Herman inexplicably lost to inferior teams a couple of times a season at Houston. (He seems to be following that trend at Texas.) That wouldn’t fly in the SEC West. Something just didn’t seem right. Under the circumstances, I wasn’t really upset with Coach O’s hiring, based on his time at USC and as interim at LSU, but I really thought he would be a placeholder for two or three seasons before we found a long term coach.

I’ve been impressed. Few coaches have shown the resilience and ability to make changes in approach the way he has. And it’s fun to watch a coach have as much fun, and who has such joy in what he does.

I wasn’t sure it was the correct hire. I knew we had to move on from Les.

I was of the opinion that we had to give O a chance.

I can honestly and humbly say I supported the hire from the day it was made.

Didn’t matter at the time just wanted Les gone. I always thought O could get it done but never this soon to this extent.
