A monkey with a slide rule and pencil sharpener would have been a upgrade.

I'll admit, I thought it was a terrible hire. You are what your record says you are.

Let this be a lesson that people do learn, grow, and change based on previous mistakes. If O had been hired here 2 years after his tenure at Ole Miss, then I'm with you. But it had been almost 10 years. He has made the most of his 2nd chance.

His dedication to change and do a true upgrade of the offense is his only real upgrade imo. But that upgrade has proved to be HUGE

The problem with this logic is, He was not the same at USC or LSU as interim.

If you look at the wins he had as USC and LSU as interim you would realize he played with a lot more talent than the opponents he defeated.

When he faced a team with equal or more talent, he lost (Florida and Bama). Also had a hideous 3-TD loss to UCLA while at USC. So he had multiple losses in less than 10 games as interim at each school. I think there are a lot of coaches that could've accomplished that tbh

LSU did not need the best coach in the country. They only needed one that was better than Miles. That was an easy call.

This sounds good now. But you do realize we had a QB/offensive problem and we hired a DLine coach (who had a horrible offense at Ole Miss) to fix a decade-long cultural, recruiting and developmental issue?

I'll be the 1st to admit I thought it was at best a lateral choice. I liked O but mostly as a passionate recruiter. Not as the guy leading the program. I was underwhelmed with my impression of the search. I'm pleased to admit I was wrong.

I thought he would only go as far as he his ability to hire top flight assistants to compliment his recruitment and motivation strengths.

This is a good point, and he has arguably lost top 2 DC in the nation and made a hire and a top young offensive mind in the nation and made a hire..I think this next season will show the fans how well Coach can sustain the program..being that he just made history with what he built he has lots of house money..here's to hoping he picked two more winners

I think you are spot on. He's already got a lot of capital now obviously... But if the new staff pans out its really on another level.

or hated Les so much that anything was better,

Put me in this category. Was so sick of Les, I figured ANYTHING was better. We were spinning our wheels on O and wasting talent all over the field.
I defended O when he came on board because I felt he deserved a chance no matter how fricked up the hiring process was.
Lets just say his enthusiasm and swagger was contagious and he genuinely seemed to want the job.

2018 was in line with the average seasons LSU has had the last 20 years. Nothing special by any means.

that is delusional. Prior to the 2018 season we had finished ranked 6 or higher just 5 times in the previous 20 seasons. NOT an average season by any means. Going back to 1962, Charlie Macs first season at LSU, we have finished 6 or better, 7 times out of 56 seasons.

considering the lack of experience on offense, the OL, at WR, RB, and with a new QB, 2018 was an exceptional season. If the 2018 season wasn't a clue to you , then I don't know what would be.

yep sure did. Lester knocked RD right on out of this thread. Kind of surprised he still posts here after the way he so arrogantly said Orgeron was a proven loser and failure so he didn't need to wait to see how he would do at LSU and the way he tried to insult anyone who could see all the good that Orgeron was bringing to the program.

When Orgeron promoted Ensminger, I thought wow this was going to be a quick end. I gladly will eat crow. Never thought a natty within 3 years was possible and with a core group assembled by Orgeron himself, not Les’ talent. So glad I was wrong

like you were told as far back as 2016, when you went under another name, he wasn't hired to be the OC, he was hired to be the HC.

still harping on OleMiss after 10 years and a USC and LSU interim HC stints. Pitiful.

now you are on to something. In addition to organization, motivation, leadership, and general oversight of the team and staff, those things are right in Coach O's wheel house. Those are the reasons he was hired and why Joe Alleva was so solid, could even say masterful, just like with Will Wade, in his hiring search. Say what you want about Joe Alleva, but we should all be thankful for two of the best coaching hires in LSU history.

I would ask you which stocks I need to buy during this sale on the market but I think I'd be scared to death of your answer

if it was as easy to see which stocks to buy as it was to see that Orgeron was a very good hire, at least by the 2018 season, then half of us on this board would be rich, and the ones who couldn't see it, probably have trouble tying their shoe laces

I won’t lie, I never thought he’d be this much of an upgrade. I never thought the offense would do the things it did last season, or even be just a good passing offense. O was my #2 choice behind Jimbo, but never in my wildest dreams did I think our program would be where it is now with O

10-3 at LSU has become a pretty average season. Les averaged around 10 wins a year etc.

Getting skunked at home in the most important game of the year definitely doesn’t make it special by any means. We lost to Bama, Florida and A&M, and then got lucky to draw a bad Group of 5 opponent in a NY6 game that had just lost its star QB.

Aside from the miracle pass by Burrow to Dillon at Auburn, there was nothing special about that season by LSU standards. Especially considering the talent on the team.

Did nothing special at LSU or usc as interim. Very average results
