The defender swatted his foot just as/before the ball arrived, meaningfully throwing off his position / balance. Probably still should have caught it, but it wasn't clean, and the underthrown ball was the underlying cause of that.

Like I sad, he has got to catch the ball. He still had to come back to it and battle defenders for the ball

It was not that under thrown. This is a terrible take. Plenty of passes to him in previous games were under thrown significantly but that one on the post was not. It was slightly under thrown but he didn’t have to stop and come back like the others that drew PI. You are not going to get a perfectly thrown ball on every vertical route whether in College or pro. The good receivers adjust to the ball and catch it.

Pointing out the throw is a soft take and offering blame to the QB which in this case there is zero to be had. Was a good ball and needed to be caught.

He’s also one of only a few players constantly talking back to the coaches.

I've never seen him once do this.

I think the lights are too "bright for him" on those long passes. He needs to have more screen type plays to get him more confidence.

Towards the end of last season, he seemed to get that confidence. Something must have happened to break it in the off season.

. Had to come back to the ball. Not sure what game some of yall watched
All he had to do was catch. He didn't come back to the ball. He just took his foot of the accelerator. Had he come back to the ball, he likely draws a PI on the USCe db.

I wonder if it's a player or coach issue. Seems like last year he at least got a few short yardage targets and looked dangerous with his 1st few steps. This year, I it seems like his only targets are deep shots + that 1 vs Clemson.

IIRC No. If it was the play I think you are referencing Jalani Watkins and Trey Dez Green could not figure out how to line up as to who was on the line and who was not. Had to burn a TO.

ilton has to make that catch but it was severely under thrown.

I think severely is definitely overstating it and is the wrong word. Slightly, maybe - but again that pass was fine. Wasn't great, but good enough - shoulda been caught.

Dont know what you were watching but that ball hit him in stride right over the shoulder. Ball went right in his catch cradle and he just did not hold on when he went to the ground.

I have been a big Hilton defender and I cant defend that one.

I think it had to do with the rotation of receivers and the movement between positions.

I felt the ball was on target and that the guy tripped him right as he was getting ready to make the catch. It should’ve been PI because he had the guy burned and all the DB did was take him out at the last second. I don’t blame Hilton for dropping that one. Could he have made the catch anyway, sure, but the dude tripped him right as he was focusing on the ball and about to snag it.

Hilton just is not a football player.

No, he just needs a bigger stage to showcase his talents. Maybe he should go to Lafayette where he can shine

Safe to assume he's not been making the plays in practice as well. That's when playing time is really earned.

Unfortunately, I think he lacks standard wide receiver instincts: very unorthodox approach to the ball, doesn't know when or if to leave his feet, and I have no idea if he has great hands or not. Hope he can improve!

Live it didn't look like the best throw but catchable. On replay that ball hit hilton in chest and hands in stride. Bad drop by hilton.

It's a "confidence" issue. And, it will stay with him until he makes a big play or gets a few screen passes where he makes some yards.

Chris Hilton is one of the worst receivers I’ve ever seen. Has had a chance to prove himself time and time again. Drops nearly everything

Hilton is a track guy playing wide receiver. I don't think he's a bad kid or anything, just kind of a one-trick pony. He's been given ample opportunity and just can't put it all together as a WR. He would do better transferring to a smaller school where he would be the center of the offense.

I'd like to see some inside passes to him on the trot like he got in the bowl game where he can turn it on after the catch. I think it was a slant.

It's definitely a confidence issue and the problem is that he has to start getting and catching the balls to get over it.
