What's wrong with the running game?

It's been a concern of mine and I've mentioned it (to a few downvotes but no hard feelings). They didn't run well last year and it's the same line and same group of backs that didn't make much progress over 14 games last year.

No surprise it was the same struggles last night. Slow, backup quality running backs running up the middle into the backs of lineman getting zero push.

Is it scheme? Denbrock displays absolutely zero creativity in run plays. Quality of RBs, ability of the lineman? All of the above?

Teams know Daniels can't threaten them down the field or run the zone read effectively

The problem with the running game is that he needs to get better at throwing the football

Yes it’s because we refuse to run any packages with the QB under center. It’s crazy that after all the short yardage woes last year we haven’t fixed that.

We can’t throw. That’s at least a very big part of it. People really don’t understand that?

You have to spread the field horizontally and vertically. The QB abilities do neither. The running backs will never have any lanes with a limited quarterback who either makes ultra conservative dump-offs or scrambles himself.

Nobody else benefits or gets involved. Everyone turns into blockers for JD.

Simplistic and uncreative and we only play out of the shotgun which limits rushing schemes. The vast majority of our runs are either inside zone outside zone or zone read.

We did try some designs QB runs that looked like a zone read last night that were disasters because the offensive line could not block.

Yes. That and an inability to make teams pay for loading the box.

When you get linebackers and Safeties stopping the run at 1 yard to negative yards, it's scheme and failure to spread the ball around the field. They knew how to attack LSU and LSU was unable to counter it. Blocking scheme was weak also.

It will be nearly impossible to fix this year without a change at quarterback. I don't mean that because I think Nuss is the answer to everything. I say that because the offensive scheme around Daniel's is by necessity to fit his skill set. With a different QB with different strengths you'd have a different scheme. Teams would not be able to just stack the box and shut you down.

The difference in 2019 was the ability to do everything on the offensive side of the ball. By the 2nd quarter, Joe had them figured out and already knew how he would score on them and beat them.

We don't have that with Daniels. The concerning part is that the whole off-season, whatever the hell it was they were doing, it was an attempt to develop an offensive identity around JD. If they moved to Nuss, ll Nuss' work to date has been on JDs offense, so they'd be drawing plays in the dirt.

We
Al links on oline
1 basic running play
I thought we might find a 2 one in the off-season
No deception at all
No outside running plays
No counters
Laziest coaching staff on o and d I've seen at LSU in a long while

Why the hell did LSU not move the pocket? You have a QB that can run. Fake the handoff with some misdirection. Roll out on a bootleg away from the pressure.

Keeping JD in the pocket played to their strength and took away ours.

I don't know why people keep saying this.

Jordan Jefferson struggled to reach 100 yards passing a few times in a single season, and we still dominated teams on the ground.

That's a poor excuse. We didn't struggle to run because FSU stacked the box last night, that's where you're wrong. We struggled to run because their Dline dominated our Oline in the run game.

It would help but it absolutely does not need a better passing game to be effective.

We need better players or better performances than what we saw last night.

we spread the field horizontally.

he’ll you can do that with just your formation

the Ol needs to block better.

also Nolan Cain should be a short yardage specialist.

he had a zone run yesterday where he needed to bounce back (which is part of zone running) and instead he ran directly into a pile of people

If we don't stretch the field (not sure we can with JD at QB), the defense shrinks and loads the box. Thus, no running game...
