I agree Nussmeier could scramble a little more safely and smartly. Don’t take unnecessary hits. He did a few times later in the season specifically against Vandy when he came back after the injury.

It really was a John Wick moment where he just got pissed and became an assassin. His body language and demeanor changed. He found something new inside, and it was definitely cold blooded to defenses.

The A&M ref game really gave me hope with Burrow. Bad officiating but he kept coming at them.

Outside of burrow excitement I remember being really excited about Jamar Chase. That game he showed what was coming also.

I was thinking he definitely got the wind knocked out of him and hoping it wasn't anything worse than that.

That hit is one of the biggest butterfly effects in sports we may have seen ever or at least in a long time.

I would love to see an interview/study about what that hit did to just elevate Burrow like it did. It wasn’t like “oh gee got better over the off season.” Cause he got that much better in that very game.

Life changing for all true Tigers, but moreso for GOAT Joe. When he popped up after that brutal hit, it was "game on"!!

Were you legitimately thinking wow this guy is going to go on and have the greatest single season in CFB history in 2019?

No and anyone who says they thought that because of a single game against UCF is either lying or sees everything through purple and gold glasses.

Forgot about that game. There were glimpses, for sure, but the consistency was lacking.

Then some annoying dude named Buckeye Joe or something like that made these wild predictions about Burrow's next season which pretty much everyone including me thought was ridiculous. And he turned out to be right.

I remember that guy. He was talking about 10k reps on the juggz machines for Chase and Jefferson in the summer and the magic it would work. His stats predictions we're insane and we all ridiculed him. And Burrow outperformed even his predictions.

Oh yeah, I remember that too.

I remember he saying Burrow was going to throw for 4500 yds and 35 TDs, and we were saying calm down, if he did that he's going to win the Heisman and we win the natty.
I recall the numbers being outlandishly high...

and as you said, still under what he did

3rd and 17 was the epiphany for me. That play marked the new era.

Mine was earlier in the game when we got the ball back in the second quarter with about 1:30 left in the half. We had the ball around our 30. I was used to us sitting on a lead and heading into halftime. Instead, Burrow drove down the field for a touchdown. That's when I realized Burrow wasn't just bullshitting when he said how much we would average in the offseason.

In the moment, my only thought was how much farther he could shove his foot up their arse until the end of the 4th quarter

I felt like things began clicking for him and the receivers in the 7OT game. The Fiesta Bowl felt like a continuation of that. The rhythm he and Chase were in that day was the start of a Hall of Fame duo.

Burrow played great for pretty much the entire month after the Bama debacle. I can’t say I predicted what happened, but I did place a national title futures bet when I was in Vegas over MLK weekend and absolutely would have dropped another 20 bucks on Burrow to win the Heisman, but that bet wasn’t available at the casino where we were at the time. So, yeah, I was very optimistic but placing low-cost ($20) futures bets with potentially high payouts is not the same as predicting something. But it was fun to cash that ticket when I returned for our golf outing the next year.

The 18 UGA game was when I knew we had something.

Georgia Southern game (I think first of 19?) was when I thought we would be something special. The offense looked like what we were promised for years, 3rd & 17 just confirmed that thought.
