I couldn’t imagine anyone following Skip was going to be successful.

Smoke was also responsible for recruiting and doing the everyday coaching that started the dynasty.

Smoke was never gonna be able to replicate Skip's success and paid the price. I'm not convinced he couldn't have won a Championship if he was given 15 years to frick around like we gave to Mainieri. I know, I know. Paul won his in his 3rd season. Blah blah.

Smoke was a good coach who would've lasted a lot longer if people realized how hard it is to win a Championship.

Like Kelly. Initial success then downhill. His personality killed the program as well. He was aloof, didn't like the fans, and blew off Skip

Think MM level of emotion with a better win percentage

Smoke would give anything for the Mcmen like excuses and for the apathy our athletic department has now for non football

That’s a lie.

Smoke was far better than people want to say he was. He was simply a victim of following the greatest coach to ever coach college baseball.

LSU went to 2 CWS in Smokes first 4 years. In any other programs fans eyes, and standards, they would have loved it. But…. At LSU… that wasn’t good enough. His 5th, and final year was not that good, but no worse than what Mainieri had twice in his tenure here.

It wasn’t bad 2002-2004. By 2005 to 2006 you could tell they really really missed on so high end talent that Skip would usually pull which led to some pretty shitty 2006-2007 seasons.

skip retired way too soon. Shoulda coached into his 70s like many baseball and football coaches do.

Typing this, feels like Brian Kelly.

Wow. He went to the CWS multiple times. Terrible comparison.

The issue was he replaced Skip AND didn’t win a title.

It’s idiotic posts like this that make Smoke look bad.

There is literally no comparison between Hallman and Smoke.

Hallman never had a winning record as head coach at LSU. Not one.

Smoke never had a losing record as head coach at LSU. Not one.

Smoke went to 2 CWS.

In SEC play under Smoke, LSU went:
19-10
20-9-1
18-12
18-12
13-17

Hell, Jay Johnson & Paul Maineiri, both, went 13-17 in SEC play and they didn’t get anywhere close to the wrath Smoke did.

Smoke followed Skip and didn’t win a National Championship. That’s his sin.
