I don’t care what we wear as long as we win…. I’ve been told the players don’t care either….. most are just interested in wearing an NFL jersey

Actually, it's an honor to wear purple jerseys. The recruits often take photos in purple jerseys.

I'm pretty sure the rule is for SEC games, the home team gets to pick. For out of conference, the visitor has to agree to the home team wearing white.
Of course, when the contract is signed to play the out of conference team, that would probably be a condition for playing the game.

Sometime between then and now, the SEC dropped the requirement for the visiting team to agree. Now it’s 100% home team choice.

It's uncanny how white/purple/white is regarded as cool and fashionable, yet gold/purple/gold is the unlucky, "jinxed" uniform. Actually back in the early 1960's LSU frequently wore the latter style for road games, and the "jinx" factor never came into play until October 2, 1965, when the LSU football team wearing gold/purple/gold wilted in Gainesville in 100+° heat.

Exactly.In 1999 Spurrier said LSU was mean to Florida after the 1997 game and said they would wear white. Roy Kramer stepped in and said for SEC games, the home team decides jersey color. In 2004 Oregon State --non conference,of course-- said they would wear white as the road team.
BTW, Spurrier wore white at home vs LSU in 1998 and 2000.
