I hate to ay this because I loved the guy but Matt Mauck has to be way up there. He won the NC in 2003 after a failed baseball career and was then drafted in the 7th round.He played 2 games for Tennessee and was traded to San Diego and was on their practice squad one season. ...

Where we're in luck here is the success of the recruiting class and program doesn't depend solely on recruiting in state. It IS permissible to recruit out of state.
