The ax has been awarded to the winner of Wisconsin v Minnesota (the most played rivalry in the history of D-1 football) since 1943. Before that, there was a trophy that dated back to 1930.
"The Boot" is a forced tradition given to the winner of a forced "rivalry". Arkansas and LSU weren't "rivals" before 1992 (if they are even rivals today). There is no long tradition in the trophy and it is quite possibly the laziest trophy design in all of college football. It is literally just a gold map of the two states.

The Magnolia Bowl is a cool name for the Ole Miss game but that may be the ugliest and laziest trophy in sports if you want to talk about lazy design.

It’s definitely ark’s attempt to force a rivalry between the 2 schools. After several years, Ark realized that no SEC school got really excited to play them so they came up with this trophy so they wouldn’t feel as irrelevant in the conference. In addition, Louisiana is the boot so the name of the trophy and game makes no sense either.

Tulane and Southern Miss have the Bell
Southern Miss held it for like 17 years because after 2006 or so they only played like twice.
Then they met in a bowl game in 2020 and they brought the bell and Tulane won so they brought it back to Tulane
