You have to actually work to get a full roster of top kids at Arky. LSU recruits itself. I mean just look at the work that JJ is putting in. These classes of guys he's bringing in are ludicrous.

You just contradicted yourself in one breath.

Paul was a great coach. He doesn’t compare to Skip, but no one really does. In the end, I was ready for him to retire. He had lost some fire. Maybe his neck. Maybe his dad dying.
I liked Jay from the first press conference he gave when he was hired and it looks like he will have more success than Paul.

Not true. Paul was gently shown the door by Scott W and his retirement for medical reasons was probably not actually necessary. If Scott would not have pressed the issue of change, Paul would still be HC and we would still be good but not great.
Don't believe this. Additional evidence beyond talk around the Admin building two years ago was presented when Paul interviewed and wanted the UMiami job. Once he was eliminated from contention, he withdrew his name.
I will always appreciate Paul for righting the ship that Smoke had practically burned down. But we were never going to be a dominant program again with PM at the helm.

The trend that JJ has set is one of true long term greatness and will, IMO, result in "Skip like" championship numbers. May not be 5 Natty's in 10 years but it will be a heck of a lot better than 1 in 14 years. Not a believer? Just sit and watch as we again become a/the dominant college baseball program in NCAA!

On the field, Les miles is a good comparison. They both had good careers but hung on a little too long.

getting fired mid season is a pretty big on the field reason. I dont think Pm would have gotten fired halfway through 2022.

Then why did he turn it down?

You're setting yourself up to be speaking about Jay in 15 years the same way you speak about Paul now.

PM was a great coach. He had his quirks (I never liked his baserunning philosophy or handling of the pitching staff), but he kept us in the conversation for a long time.

I think he loves the school and the program, and maybe waited a little too long to let go when he didn't have as much heart in it anymore.

He should be celebrated.

You were in the meeting? No you weren’t, so now you take a malicious shot at a national championship coach and really good man. A real man doesn’t have to drag others down to try and make themselves look better. What a pathetic way to live life.

three generations of coaches pulling for a program, and being able to be in on recruiting weekends, etc. is simply unavailable anywhere else in the country.

It's a remarkable thing.

It was the inconsistency with the play that we have become accustomed to and with the resources we have there is no reason an LSU baseball team should ever slide into 9th place as we ended before JJ.
It was time for some new and young blood that felt this was a dream destination and we got exactly that guy.

Les was disgraced with the stuff we found out about recently, Paul is in great standing with the university.

That’s really the problem. Some want to compare PM’s success (or lack thereof) to Skip Bertman’s success and that’s not really fair. The landscape of the sport are not comparable. PM had 3 trips to Omaha and 1 championship. That’s a whole hell of a lot more than most coaches will EVER see in their careers.

ETA: In the end, it really was time for PM to retire, but he was a great coach.

how awesome is it that we can have Skip, Paul, Jay embrace and work together and show their love and support of LSU?

No schools can show that kind of legacy and that kind of lasting brotherhood

Paul did fine, but it was time. He had some rough personal stuff come up and I’m sure that made it difficult. He genuinely loves LSU and it’s cool to see him still support the guys he brought in.

I handle CPM's legacy as such, was he as good as Skip, hell to the new, but he won a Natty and had multiple appearances in the postseason, thats a good coach in my book, just my book though. With that said, I would have loved to see more CWS wins and overall dominance. I do think he deserves some recognition for righting the ship from the Smoke era, sure Skip may have had a hand in that too, but kudos to CPM for listening to a Legend.
CJJ took CPM's boys adjusted the roster a bit and won the Natty in Year 2, within a newer NIL landscape. CPM left him looking good enough to go out make adjustments and win less than one year he did.
CJJ can be a great coach, it is sure as hell to early to tell, winning that quickly is a shot in the arm for the program, but he needs to perfect his coaching more, how much is yet to be seen.

TLDR; you win a Natty keep the boat in the right direction and you should be celebrated, just maybe not as much as a Legend.

I agree with all of this. I was not a big fan of Paul’s style of offense, I like coach Jays better but that is one thing. Paul had a great career at LSU. He is the first to say they missed on a couple of titles so there is no reason to pile on the guy.
