Was a myth created by the talent of Mett, OB, and Landry?
Posted by jimmy the leg

Looking back on Mett, OB, and Landry...we converted a shite load of third and forever downs. Hell against Georgia alone, it seemed like 3 or 4 third and 15 plus were converted. My point is, did we really have an open passing attack that year, or (other than the deep ball over the top), were we forced into some long third downs that we converted (regularly I might add) that added to the passing total. It seems like a lot of Miles defenders point to this season as his example of unleashing the passing game. Looking back, I don't know if that's is true. There was a reason we were continually in third and long to start with.

So, are you saying that the running game was worse and that forced the 3rd and long pass tries;
and now that it's better, and we get more 3rd and shorts, we tend to get those with runs more than passes?

Throwing on first down is what puts you in third and long situations, not running on first down - especially when you have Jeremy Hill in the backfield.

OH EM GEE!!! I think I remember Flacco throwing on 3rd down too! Somebody quickly check the stats and see if Brees threw the ball on 3rd down; it might be CAAAAAMMMMMMM!!!!!!

this is the 11th year of CLM
best winning % ever
we are in Auburn week
I don't get the mind set of the fan base
I really don't
When I go over to the Bama and Ole Miss boards they are talking the coming up football game
We talk about Les and lack of passing

yes all that is true. We never had this wide open offense in 2013 at all, Lot of those throws were on 3rd down or 2nd and long. Obvious passing situations. We just had great talent that made great plays. We really went into a shell starting with the Florida game. Before that we were a little more open.

we weren't better or worse, It's just that when teams know what's coming it's a lot easier to stop

How'd the last 3 years look?
How'd the Music City bowl turnout?

I actually just went back and looked at the Georgia tape and it was crazy. He had 372 yards passing and 3 touchdowns, all on 3rd down and 10 and longer. Craziest thing I've ever seen.
Actually, LSU converted on three 3-and-8 or longer plays in that game, for about 100 yards and one touchdown.

Pretty sure we understand it.
It's just that it's an asinine point and it's being called out as such.
In addition, it's an asinine point being made on Wednesday of fricking Auburn week...because, well...there's no time like the present to shite on the program, right?
Honestly...this place has become a damn toilet...

If unleashing the passing game is still not averaging near 300 yards a game, then yes, it was unleashed. Mett eclipsed 300 twice, 200 3 times and in other starts had less than 200. We will never see crazy yardage in the air, when you consider two of the best throwers in our history (Russell and Mett) did't average close to 300 yards to game.
So yes, I agree. It wasn't an air attack. Just a closer resemblance than the crap we usually see.
