Terrible effort after the INT.. but without out knowing the actual play call/design, not sure if it was Watkins or Harris who messed up.. to me it looks like Harris was supposed to take his route deeper and make the cut to the middle at the 2yd line which would have put Watkins in the right spot to set the "pick", but when he cut it short at the 4 Watkins had no one to pick and was stuck... but still obviously should have chased the guy down.

Definitely disappointing after I saw that the other night and I never will forget under the Bill armsfarger years when we played Notre Dame and Lou holtz was coaching at Notre Dame and I forgot who our quarterback was. But we threw an interception and I'll be doggone. Harvey Williams ran him down from the back and I'll be doggone if Notre Dame went for it on 4th down and we held them stop the score. You got to put forth the effort unless he was just dog tired and I will always thank Harvey Williams because that game I think that's when we definitely would have lost had they scored that touchdown I believe. Thinking about it now. I believe it was Tommy hodson who threw the pic and like I said Harvey Williams ran him down from the back

yeah low effort but I dont love a pick play with that much room. it’s hard to seek that slant when your head hunting a guy 8 yards away.

Usually they have the all a little closer.

I thought it was poor effort when it happened , but after looking at other stuff, it could have been any number of things.

That was a long arse drive. Could have been gassed and knew that his only goal was to be a disruptor and felt like that was enough on the play. You can see he was clearly shocked when it got picked and took off, but i think he guessed his speed and the DB's speed and realized he couldn't catch him. With that said, you can't let it look that blatant. Take off for 20-30 yards at least. He's going to get roasted on that in film study.

Probably the reason was because the play before he was wide open in the end zone and Sam looked straight at him and tried to score the TD running. You could see 6 was pissed. I don’t think this was a coincidence

Lane alluded to this in his press conference today. Said QB's get too much credit and too much blame. Mentioned that the INTs were not completely on Leavitt. Also mentioned that the offense was gassed at times.

To me, it looks like Harris got knocked off his route causing the INT. I was at the game, and live it looked like PI to me, but it's tough to tell on the replay how much contact their was. IMO, Harris needs to be stronger and fight through that contact on the goal line. I understand we can't only key in on Trey'Dez, but it seems like if you're going to run that route, he's the perfect guy to run it with.

Definitely could have caught up with the tech DB. Inexcusable. Especially when you’re getting paid. Be better

I’m not making an excuse for him, but was at the game and at some point right before a time out if I’m not mistaken,Winnie got popped on a crossing route really good. He got up from the hit but you could tell by how he was walking he was seeing stars. I remember saying at the time glad we took a time out here. I think Watkins needs to come out for a little while. Again don’t even know if it was on this drive just saying he may have been a little dazed.

Yikes. That's rough

Edit - rewatched a few times. The pick was so far away, the outside corner was on his guy by the time Watkins gets there. Had he made contact it would've been a penalty.

Secondly, pretty clear holding on DB that would've change the outcome of the play

Maybe more confusion than lack of effort. Wether or not you make contact or not. Being the db had jumped the route, Watkins would've had to change directions to get in his way. Easy penalty call.

Don't like the play design.

Its a bad look don't get me wrong but dude was clearly exhausted

Exactly. It’s really easy to bash a kid while we sitting on the couch in the living room for effort while he’s trying to go 90 mph every 15 seconds in full pads and 100 degree weather. I can see how some would be exhausted running a fast paced offense like that after 15-20 plays.
