Just imagine pregame introductions:

At WR #1 (insert player's name)
The offical Tiger player representative of Manda Meats, Coca-Cola Bottling of Baton Rouge and Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center.

There are so many D1 teams & interstate laws more consequential than league laws… you can’t just have an “invest what you want” free for all.

Except that you can, they do it in European soccer leagues and it works fine. Best players go to the highest bidders. Sorry this must be a difficult new reality for you to accept son.

Serious question

What's to stop a program from throwing out millions to get a star player over to their side?

It's coming & I hope Bama is the 1st one it hits.

Maybe Texas can toss $10mm at Young

And if anyone believes different, they are insane or the father of one of the recruits. This is absolutely ruining college football. I agree to pay players under a controlled set of rules, but this has will even more get out of hand.

Cool bro. If they don’t do something, enjoy CFB’s transformation into AA baseball + same 4-team playoff annually for the rest of time.

I doubt Saban or Jimbo are calling him with offers. But I don’t think it is a violation for a NIL rep that isn’t directly tied to the school to call him and say, “If you were playing at Bama/aTm, I could offer you a marketing deal worth $xxx, xxx.

That’s the gray area. NIL agents can contact them. NIL offers cannot stipulate you have to play for team X. But we all know how that will work. The semantics will make all the difference. “Company C is looking for Alabama players or players that live in the Tuscaloosa area. Blah blah blah.

Well I may be in the minority but if I gotta start crowd funding players to stay I’ll prolly lose interest all together. You will have players holding fans and boosters hostage every year making them bid on them.I’ll pass on all that. What I think will happen is inter conference transferring will be banned and letter of intent agreements will span 3 years and NIL deals will come with contingency agreements on them playing 3 years or something to that effect.Who knows guess we will see

It sucks. It’s the NFL without contracts.

So he's not in the portal yet he's getting NIL offers from other schools?
Isn't that a violation
No...

You don't get an NIL offer from "a school". You get NIL deals from private businesses.

I'm pretty sure someone can say "Y'know, if you were in Tuscaloosa, I'd give you a 1 mil deal to represent my body shop (wink)". I'm pretty sure Raising Canes can tell Bryce Young he'd get a mil if he were in Baton Rouge.

These are not NCAA violations any longer. Has nothing officially to do with the school, and the players can get whatever deal they want. And they just so happen to have the transfer portal too, so if they do decide that NIL offer is legit and worthwhile, they can up and split.

He entered the portal on 11/23. Did Bama/Ohio st. talk him into entering the portal? If so, that's the exact stuff that needs to be investigated. Seems like it should be pretty easy to track communication nowadays

Nobody wants to out the other program because all big programs are doing this grimy stuff.

It's the wild, wild west right now. NCAA will not punish schools for poaching other players with bigger paydays. NCAA just got creamed in the courts over this. What is happening is exactly what was thought would happen.

Until there are proper perimeters set it will continue to be this way and it will continuously be tested. Kill the portal and reinstate transfer rules will slow this down.

What better way to make your team better while making your opponent weaker. This shite is funny. I can’t imagine why any man would fork out 100s of thousands of dollars to pay some kid to play for their favorite college. That’s just dumb. I guess that’s what it’s like when you have frick you money.

And to constantly have to rely on this is freaking absurd. And that’s just to keep the players you already have on roster. Not only every year, but throughout the entire season.

This sucks so much.

If only K&B were still around, they’d be a perfect NIL sponsor for KB.

The Genie's out of the bottle. And because our previous coach was busy getting pussy, we have no NIL program set up.

This is batshit crazy….college football is going down a very very bad path here regardless of LSU may reap occasional benefits for this NIL BS. How in the flying hell can they now keep the eventual point shaving scandals out of this?

Getting NIL offers to go to a specific school is against the rules.
