the destruction of college football is accelerating.
Mass free agency with a free transfer.
Our beautiful game (yes, it had flaws, but it was beautiful) is gone.

Bama and A&M offering 150k to a kid who’s not in the transfer portal and is currently on a team. How can this be legal?

Damn. I meant it purely as a joke but that's wild.

So basically a full scholarship all the coaching all the weight training nutrition training the tutoring getting on television every weekend just as an Justice and enough these guys have to be paid now....
Think of the millions of college athletes that have come before today dad that were grateful for everything they received from the University and now we've got fans scheming to raise money to keep a player from flipping to arrival a rival with a big bag of money....
They have ruined college football with unintended consequences it all started with having a little extra money to go home and see mama for the holidays and now we're talking about you know serious money....

So college football is becoming like a silent auction now

As a little kid I liked the 5 gallon bucket of K&B Neopolitan.

Probably because it's just some random company that's offering it

What? That’s just insane.

The true capitalist would see that the product will be massively hurt as players take things the fans have emotional attachments to and destroy them.
This is the part no one is talking about. The product on the field had already been suffering with the consolidation of talent to fewer and fewer programs. People don’t like to see the same half a dozen schools dominate year in and year out.
If parity isn’t returned to the sport soon then viewership/revenue are going to drop and the players aren’t going to continue to see these big NIL deals. Why bother paying if you’ve got no shot of winning or your players will get poached shortly after showing development/promise?
Some of the media/big names in the industry want to act like the fans are selfish and irrelevant, but remember: none of this is possible without their support.

There needs to just be a cap at $25k-50k or so and across the board and all the stuff has to go through the school that way if it’s done wrong the school suffers. You can’t have bidding wars with no contracts,no loyalty,no tradition, just pure pay to play. Also no one has thought of the fact a booster for another school could get NIL deals done through friends in the area of a rival school for things such as taking a game off or basically straight up cheating kind of like points shaving.Say it’s the Iron Bowl and Bama has to win,I’m pretty sure they got Gumps stupid enough and fanatical enough to pay anybody on Auburn’s team that can help them win especially if Auburn isn’t in any shape to make the playoff. This stuff opens up all types of crazy scenarios and tampering with rival teams.Maybe I’m paranoid and don’t know what I’m talking about and I hope so

quote:nope. A suit store or a dodge dealership in Tuscalooser can offer KB, or any other player at any other school, an NIL if they want. Their name, image, or likeness is their property and theirs alone; and their money spends just like anyone elses.
So he's not in the portal yet he's getting NIL offers from other schools?
Isn't that a violation
THIS is why the schools should have had a stake. I said stake, not "say". By that I mean players NIL should be partially tied to the school. Instead of "KB" it would be "KB of LSU". Instead, the school has no stake, thus isn't allowed to have interest. Therefore it is open season
Quid pro Quo's are permitted, just not pay for play.
I said in another post... you are either predator or prey. We're the gazelle. Always on the defensive.
ETA: the solution lies not in the NIL, but in the portal. Including immediate eligibility. Take the portal out of the equation and the whole thing goes away. Take immediate eligibility out of it and it slows way down. There's no point in paying to poach a player if he can't be poached.

Players will say coaches will need a cap if they get one

The reality is that if LSU wants to be a football powerhouse going forward, it's going to have to become a NIL powerhouse first.
why am I not surprised that "NILSU" is behind on getting NIL deals done

That’s the gray area. NIL agents can contact them. NIL offers cannot stipulate you have to play for team X. But we all know how that will work. The semantics will make all the difference. “Company C is looking for Alabama players or players that live in the Tuscaloosa area. Blah blah blah.
That gray area has been exploited in the dark for a long time. How many parents have gotten new cars, jobs, and/or houses so their kid can play somewhere? With NIL now a thing, it’s at least out in the open.

The rule stipulates that a player can hire an agent to negotiate his NIL deals with a company. The RULE says the agent can't continue to represent the player in any other context.Yea, right. It's the agents who are making the shady contacts & phone calls. An agent can call 5-6-7-8 companies representing 5-6-7-8 different schools & find the best deal for his client. Some players are actively involved, not illegally, and this was Kiffen's take on this : " a player approached me & told me 'I am already offered this. What do you have to offer?' This is the first few mths of this system. Imagine how refined agents will make of this system in the years to come. This is only the tip of the iceberg, it's going to get a lot worse.

It will be for a while. But, once people start getting little return for their NIL dollars, this stuff will calm down. It is unsustainable for the amount of money that is being thrown around right now.
