I agree, I though I’m sure part of it is nostalgia. The real reason I can’t listen on the radio these days is all the ads and sponsor readings. It never ends.

to be honest Chris Blair sounds like a natural baseball play by play

I used to love listening to Hawthorne because you could feel it on his voice when something was good or bad. You could feel the emotion. That is something that Blair is missing.

I like Chris Blair. I just wish they could match him up with a baseball analyst he has better chemistry with than Doug Thompson.

Those two don't mesh well.

Jack Hunt!! Jack Hunt!!!

It’s a pop up down the left field line and Furniss scoops it up and steps on first for the out

I was never a Hawthorne fan. Too folksy for my tastes. Also, sometimes the guy was confusing as hell and, at other times he seemed lost or trailing the action.
Blair has a great broadcast voice and is very good in the booth but he seems to lack personality at times.
I think he and Moreau lack spontaneity as a team.
I don’t miss Hawthorne.

I wanted to listen to the Blair call on the Jefferson TD to seal the game and I was really unimpressed. The enthusiasm was lacking. That was a HUGE play for the game and for the program in general and it just felt ordinary by his description/call. Disappointed.

Look, I grew up only ever knowing the greatness of Jim Hathorn on the radio. Infinite glorious memories.

That said, the last 2-3 years are littered with Lee Corso esque audio gaffes that made even the best of Tiger fans cringe. It's so much better that he retired from the call when he did, rather than continue on a la Corso on Gameday, ultimately becoming a bad joke.

I much prefer my "golden years" memories of JH & am more than ok giving Blair a few years to find his LSU voice.

Blair is too focused on sounding professional on every call he makes. Like others have said, he would be great on a national medium where they don’t want fan-like calls.

My complaint when he was hired. He sounds like just a generic announcer.

Interesting take for sure. I tend to favor Blair so I can actually follow the game as if I were watching, but Hawthorn definitely had me more excited on big plays.

Blair does a great job. But I do prefer Hawthorne’s raw emotion when big plays happen.

/Thread:
1) Blair would be great on national broadcasts
2) Blair calls an excellent basketball game
4) Chris is a pro. Appreciate his calls. But you cannot manufacture decades of fandom.

Hawthorne was Invested... frequently mirrored the spirit & emotion of many faithful fans... and that is something I really do miss at times.

I agree he seemed frustrated toward the end (see “mirrored the spirit and emotion of many faithful fans”)

I’d love to have heard Hawthorne call the 4th quarter of the UTx game... one might even say he was “owed” it after calling the entire backend of Miles tenure lol.

There was a time in my family home when we would mute the TV just to listen to the local radio broadcast while we watched.

I really like Chris Blair, hell I was at Georgia Southern and liked him there too.

I will always love Hawthrone, but it does not mean I cannot like Blair either. I think people just have heard JH for so long, they associate him with all of the their memories. In 10 years it will be the same with Blair.

Hawthorne- Skyler Green Georgia Call

Chris Blair- LSU-Texas 3rd and 17

Hawthorne's calls were much more authentic than Blair's are.
