I think Blair is a very good announcer, but he doesn't have the real love for LSU that Hawthorne had. Blair would be great nationally in my opinion.

Chris Blair is a good dude and has been a great ambassador for LSU, don't get me wrong. This is about what happens in the booth. His voice is inauthentic and his enthusiasm is too tempered and comes off manufactured at times.

Hawthorn, for all of his errors, never lacked authenticity and his voice was unique and recognizable. And he never held back.

Thanks for listening guys. I feel better now.

i agree completely....to be honest Chris Blair sounds like a natural baseball play by play but not as much on football i guess its the type of voice he has...but i agree i would take Hawthorne and all his errors over Blair in football

I agree. With football, Blair is always too late and not descriptive enough with what is happening.

He's fun to listen to on the dubbed over highlights next day but it can be so frustrating to listen live. When you hear that a pass is caught or a runner is still going, you have no idea how long of a play it is or where on the field any of it is occurring.

I get excited to hear the crowd noise behind him but have no idea why they are cheering until a few seconds later. Always thinking to myself how great a play it must have been rather than hearing it happen through the commentator.

He's got a great voice. His call is not better than Hawthorne.

Blair is more professional and I think he works much better with his supporting cast.

You could sense Hawthorne's frustrations when things weren't going well and sometimes it's like it was an inconvenience for him. I really think Hawthorne would have been better had he given up baseball or scaled down his commitments towards the end.

I still prefer McDonough's call over Hawthorne's for the Morris homerun. I still can't get how you botch the Devery Henderson TD, you could easily tell that was him watching the game and to use Jack Hunt over him is awful since he was a defensive player.

don't dislike blair, but he does occasionally come off as "cheesy morning drive radio guy". hard for us "old timers" to adjust. I only knew hawthorne. my dad wouldn't get cable for a number of years , so WWL was my lifeline growing up in ga. just takes time. ive never warmed up to the braves radio announcer (steeeeeeeeeeryke threee call !) I'm spoiled on radio. I had ernie Johnson sr., pete van wieren and skip caray.

I'll wait to hear Chris sing before forming a final opinion.

Chris Blair has a more professional voice but I can’t stand how he doesn’t get excited about big plays. So much so I don’t even care about going and listening to them after the game.

His calls for Texas were like LSU was playing Northwestern State.

I loved Jim Hawthorne’s distinctive voice and could live with his mistakes. Jim Hawthorne’s excitement made him great.

This is not an unpopular opinion. Not on this board.

An unpopular opinion is I think CB is way better than JH.

Of course CB didn't have the enthusiasm that JH had, but he's growing into it. If you have any doubt, go look at his salty replies on Twitter to Dan whathisfrickface from Yahoo and Dick Dick Vitale during the Will Wade stuff. He was quick with the wit.

His basketball play by play is out of this world and I love the football and baseball work too. I think if people looked at it objectively, you'd realize you honestly feel that way about JH because he was all that you have known and people don't like change. So from the start CB was at a disadvantage due to bias

I agree

But I grew up in Hs listening to JH call LSU football games in early 90s

He’ll always be voice of the Tigers to day I die.

I remember my first time hearing Jim Hawthorne, all I thought was that is the perfect voice to call LSU football.

It could be just nostalgia, but I always thought that too.

He's still new. It takes a while to get used to a new voice of the program. Hawthorne went through the same process when he took over football in 1984.

I think Chris is a pro. He will do fine.

Hawthorne’s calls of big football plays were better but everything else Bair is better at in my opinion. Now a days mostly everyone watches the games on tv and only hear Blair on the highlights which Hawthorne was better at but if you listen the entire game you would realize Blair paints a way clearer picture.

To me Blair is way better than Hawthorne and its not even close. More pleasant voice tone, more articulated, more professional. God bless Hawthorne nothing against him but this was a significant upgrade.

The only thing Doug Moreau brings to the broadcast is his voice that makes you know you’re listening to LSU football.

Blair is so much damn better. You actually know what is going on.

The passion will come I think.
