Hopefully this isn’t true. They will tear the programs down to the studs in the name of profit and then leave it to rot.
ETA: If this is TAF or the big doners “buying in” and getting a cut of profits, that’s different. They care about LSU and will just be making money off of something they’ve been giving in to for years. It’s still far from ideal as they will be guaranteed a certain ROI, and we all know the thing that erodes relationships faster than anything else is money.
But
If this is ANY outside entity, they will be buying in for one reason, and that’s to make money. They won’t give without getting, and that’s will absolutely include explicit powers over financial decisions.

If LSU was to sell a 9.5% stake for $100 million, that would price LSU sports at a little over $1 billion. Still seems low, but 9.5% is not a controlling interest. Such a deal would merely allow the private equity firm to recoup actual income on its investment; something that is not happening for current donors. It would not, however, let the private equity control LSU sports.
No PE firm is going to give $100M without getting a certain level of control over decisions that impact the bottom line.

This entity will be a venture created by LSU's Big Donors to assist LSU. These are the same folks who have been helping LSU or who have wanted to help LSU.

**You think
That would be the only way LSU does this without ending up a soulless husk, but stop talking like you know this for a fact.
No one knows, it’s all speculation right now.

There are certainly pieces missing, but we know for a fact that it is LSU's Big Donors that are involved in the deal.

Tried telling you guys this when NIL passed, CFB is over, we’re going to have a separation then a purchase of the upper group and it’ll be turned into another pro league.
I'll still watch the games, but my emotional attachment to college sports is just about nil.
What a shame.

Private equity into LSU probably won't operate like your company being bought and sliced up for profit. Idk though
Private equity is designed to throw money at something and get money back out of it by any means necessary and then usually sell it off before their decisions impact their own wallet.
Think like.. create terrible working conditions, profit, get out of it before the employees quit and the PNL tanks

And if I’m a big donor, I don’t think I’d like the new arrangement. I’d be like “frick this shite. I’m not donating millions for a bunch of it to go to private equity instead of the product on the field.”
Not just big donors. But smaller level donors will feel similarly. Why would they want to cut donation checks to LSU athletics for a few hundred to a few thousand bucks a year when now their donation funds are helping to enrich a PE group?

This makes sense, and i hope is what is happening.
You can't expect these rich people to continue to give money and get nothing back. What doesn't make sense to me though is that if there is money to give back to them to recoup their investment, then why are we needing their money in the first place? If you have the money to give back to them, then just use that money on this stupid arse NIL shite instead of asking for donations.

My friends:
This is one domino to fall on a whole heap of dominoes that will fall over the next decade as power and wealth continue to consolidate in the hands of the few, a trend which was kicked off in earnest in the times leading up to and after the 2008 crash. Bank bailouts were the loosening of the reins that corporations wanted to see. Citizens United was the Supreme Court decision that placed untold political power into the hands of the very wealthy.
Risk is definitely on and has been for almost two decades, with the Joes and the Janes being the ones actually bearing the brunt of it.
We are witnessing the fall of our country and, with it, the fall of Western Civilization. The DSA, with its explicit and direct ties to China, is rising amongst the ranks of the Democrats and more and more disillusioned, disaffected, downtrodden, coddled young people are falling for the trap of communism as they have seen the boomers fall for the trap of capitalism.
There is a reckoning on the way.
Might be time to hoard gold like a pirate.

I hope like hell this is what is happening. Because I could see Todd Graves, etc. saying “Hell, I’m just gonna take my profit and plow it right back into LSU athletics.
But AT THIS POINT—none of you people talking with such assurance in this thread know for a fact it will be LSU-minded people as donors and investors.
And if it IS an outside giant corporate raider PE firm like Blackstone, Apollo, or AGM, then Rousse, Ausberry, and the brain trust are going to soft pedal the hell out of it, claiming “these people love LSU!” without telling us exactly who they are. It will take an investigative journalist to find out what’s going on.
I hope like hell the scenario is like the post I quoted here.

Private Equity's whole purpose isn't to do anything for any customer
Its to squeeze every single dollar it can out of something, even if it means (and it somehow always does with PE), dismantling it and selling it for parts
Bids on the infamous Tiger Stadium pvc pipe will start at $350.

Men's basketball will be ok because it can generate revenue. Baseball, which is a crown jewel is what's the real worry. Womens BB while not a revenue sport still is a championship calibre sport, so is Gymnastics. Those will also be a casualty.
NIL is all about just football.

I don’t think they invited the top 40 donors to inform them an outside PE firm would be investing.
That doesn’t even make sense. This is almost certainly an internal investment.
