He posted this on his IG story last night:

quote:

If LSU could have legally paid me $100k per year, I would’ve played all four years….

The night before my press conference declaring for the NBA Draft, I sat in the parking lot of Burger King and cried for hours…

Only one friend saw me cry, because I too embarrassed to publicly say I wanted to stay in school.

Joakim told me they were all going back to Florida, and Lord knows I wanted all the smoke…

But, my grandmother was a housekeeper on LSU’s sorority row!!!

We were poor…

I had to leave….

But trust me, my love for hooping has never been about money!!!

He made millions his first year in the NBA and went 4th overall.

No you wouldn't have Tyrus, and no one blames you for going pro.

yes he was!

Fun to think about what could have been if they all came back like FL players did.

Woulda…Coulda…Shoulda

And his education? I don’t buy this “mama/grandma saga”

I believe he didn’t want to leave. These kids are pressured to provide for an extended family at an early age.

Exactly.

He may have been nervous about leaving the comfort of home, but he wasn't turning down that type of money. He wasn't a fringe draft prospect. He was a lottery pick. No one can predict the future. When such an opportunity presents itself, you have to take it...even if he could have been paid in college.

LOL, what’s wrong? Tyrus is just telling his story. It’s no big deal. Did he steal your girl or something?

f all that. they got by being poor for 21 years they can wait 1 more until he finishes school. it is not his job anyway to bail out the whole damn family

had he stayed in school he woulda been fed, clothing and housing provided.

he left because he wanted to leave.

Tyrus provided so many good memories in really just one year at LSU. The Duke and Texas games alone were enough to cement a wonderful legacy.

It’s a shame the current program has been reduced to ashes. 2006 seems like a lifetime ago.

I sat next to his mom at the Auburn away game in 2006 & she should pretty much alluded to the same.

She said they loved LSU & he really wanted to stay longer, but then mentioned that money talks & they'd probably have to chase that NBA money instead.

Imagine if Marcus Thornton had been academically eligible in 2006 instead of playing JUCO that season.

Great on him but I have never once had any animosity against him for leaving early. 4th overall was life changing for him.

I'm not naive enough to think high-caliber players weren't stumbling upon anonymous brown bags back then.

Two players I'll love forever, Tyrus Thomas and Emmitt Williams. Both left too early and both were fun as frick to watch.

Big ups Tyrus

Legend in my eyes.

I had seats near the players families back then and I got to know several of them. Tyrus' grandmother was a wonderful person and of course so proud of Tyrus. No doubt he took care of her after being drafted.

Marcus Thornton's mother was very nice, there were alway s about 8 to 10 Thornton family members at every game. Mama Thornton always joked that if he played well she would fix him his favorie meal Jambalaya.

Hopefully they all invested well and took care of the families and not the hangers on.

can ChatGPT calculate sports hypotheticals yet?

Such as:
-how does 2007 LSU do with Tyrus
-how much longer/better is NBA career?

Don’t blame him!
