Great our best players on either side of the ball are going to have their worst season of their LSU career simultaneously...

Weeks is a good player, and I may get blasted for this, but he's not some elite freak talent like I thought 7 should be.
I like the 18 tradition, 7 should be when we have that rare player.

Just when I thought TreyDez was going to be a breakout star. Now he has the kiss of death.

the #7 doesn't hold the same weight it used to. I think both players are deserving of it, but Whit is in year 4 and already looks good in 40. 7 is best when given out to a freshman or sophomore imo.

You would think guys like that would want to carve out their own number legacy, but now they're just another #7.

7 isn't going to be given out to a Freshman, ever! Maybe to a Sophomore but that will even be rare for what 7 and 18 means. And FYI, if Kiffin thought it was a nonsense deal, he would have scrapped it, so the fact that he let 7 and 18 be issued out again, says a lot. Some of you just need to embrace it and get over it.
It's a tradition and sometimes traditions are made to just keep going.

Please put an end to this stupid-arse God damn fricking gay tradition.
I thought Lane would end it. Unfortunately, I was wrong.

Whit becomes first white defensive player to get #7.
There are 7 days in a Week. It was meant to be.
White Weeks for heisman!

If it means something to the players then that is all that really matters. But in reality, it's one of the dumbest "traditions" in the program considering how it actually came about. It wasn't founded on the BS principles LSU later fabricated to make it sound like a sacred tradition. It was simply a joke based on skin color.
When Matt Mauck wore 18 it had no underlying meaning whatsoever other than it was simply his number. After he left the number was randomly assigned to Hester by the (former) equipment manager simply because it was available. It was a joke that it was just assigned to a "white guy". Hester had a good LSU career. But when it came time for him to leave he jokingly felt the number should be passed on to another "unathletic" white guy...which is the SOLE reason Hester's friend, Richard Dickson, started wearing the number in 2008.
It had absolutely NOTHING to do with "the football player who best embodies leadership, selflessness, high character, and a team-first mentality". That's BS LSU marketing came up with later.
