I agree with a lot of what you're saying. You could probably plug in 10-15 different guys and get the same results as Paul over the same time period given the built in advantages LSU brings to the table. Even with the parity of today's college game, the program has slightly underachieved as of late.
Over any 10 year span, LSU should:
Win a national championship.
Play in 2-3 championship series.
Get to Omaha 7-8 times.
Be a national seed 8-9 times.
In essence, under Paul, outside of the title, I think the things that the program strives for are more the exception, not the norm. That's the issue.

Better get Temple and Brown to start the search.

you never know with coaches. some like the challenge and new scenery.
texas has everything it needs to succeed and is a historic program, but they havent done shite in 5 years and had a losing record. Paul knows hes already won 1 NC here and will never hold a candle to Skip.
i think this is a tougher decision for him than people think. most LSU fans think hes just trying to get a raise, but UT has an open checkbook too.

Serious question:
If you take away the championships for Miles and Mainieri are they still coaching at LSU? Let's give them winning seasons both of those years, just no championship.

You do realize how shitty the program's foundation was in 2006 right?
Paul came in and literally ran off half the players on the team.

so basically LSU football and LSU baseball run themselves. Why have we ever been bad in either sport?

Miles and CPM were both nearly ran for making terrible hires and then likely saved their jobs by rectifying the mistake with great hires.

I agree with this. it's amazing with rob does with a bunch of acadiana boys. imagine what he'd be able to do with LSU talent. for him to even have ull in the top ten is unbelievable. but.......the state is a true college baseball state.
When is ULL in the top ten? Tony is a great pitching coach but LSU shouldn't have to settle for that. He's been recruiting top 25 talent the last few years and still couldn't make it to Omaha with his best team ever.

"Maybe they would be interested in a package deal. BB, FB, Hoops, and AD. Kinda like a clean start for both schools. And I forgot, women's hoops as well. Hell, just trade the whole athletic department heads up."
+1 what he said.
Throw whatever it takes to get Andrew Checketts
Shaq for BB
Kim Mulkey womens BB

Guilbeau weighing the pros and cons:

Reasons To Take Texas Job for Paul Mainieri: 1. Make between 1 to 1.5 million. 2. Texas AD Mike Perrin is green to job, but very nice guy.
quote:
Another reason for Mainieri to go to Texas: With TOPS changing as we know it, it will likely not be the advantage it once was.
quote:
Reasons to Stay At LSU: In this day and age, not getting along with your AD is not that big of a deal as long as you win. And Mainieri will.
quote:
Reason for Mainieri to Stay:Texas doesn't have free scholarship program for high school students. May be harder recruiting there than at LSU
quote:
Reason for Mainieri To Leave: Austin blows away BR as a city, and doesn't have as bad a traffic problem. Not that any of that matters to PM.

UT uses their endowment like monopoly money when it comes Athletics. All shortcomings with partial scholarships are made good.

This coming from the same poster who said a couple of days ago that Alex Lange is going pro and will not be at LSU next season...
Silly me. I thought Lange was a draft-eligible sophomore.
Still, don't see what that has to do with the fact that Mike Bianco, with LSU's resources and traditions, would be a helluva coach and do at least as well as Mainieri.

UT does not use endowment for Athletics
UT Athletics does give UT Academics between $10-15 Million per year
