Kirk Bohls, Rosetta retweet:

quote:

Source says Texas has approached LSU's Paul Mainieri about its vacant baseball coaching job. UCLA's John Savage still a candidate.

quote:

On Thursday morning, Austin-American Statesmen sports columnist Kirk Bohls said Texas "approached LSU's Paul Mainieri about its vacant baseball coaching job." He then added that UCLA's John Savage is still a candidate.

Moments later, D1Baseball.com's Kendall Rogers confirmed the report, adding that the Longhorns' push for Mainieri is "very legitimate", and that Texas has interviewed Mainieri in the "past couple of days."

Like Bohls, Rogers added that Savage appears to still be in the mix, adding that he's the "leader in the clubhouse." Rogers also said "I’ll be the first to say this: I would be shocked, utterly shocked, if Mainieri leaves LSU."

That's weird...if you'd read the rant Mainieri isn't a good coach and his players hate him. Evident by Deichmann and Robertson returning

Not financially. Texas is ready to throw a blank check for even mediocre coaches.

Because the Texas AD has such a great track record picking out successful coaches.

This is the issue.

I hope Mainieri stays at LSU and I believe he will.

If he leaves, the Rant will soon proclaim him the best active coach in college baseball and will criticize Alleva for not paying him to stay.

I get what you're trying to say, but using 26th and 32nd round picks, respectively, doesn't really help you here.

Maybe they would be interested in a package deal. BB, FB, Hoops, and AD. Kinda like a clean start for both schools. And I forgot, women's hoops as well. Hell, just trade the whole athletic department heads up.

Mainieri is too far into his career to go to a program and completely rebuild. His wife loves LSU and I think he'll end up retiring here.

Everything I've read on the rant these two would literally sign for "peanuts" and "a bus ticket" I stand by my statement.

Air Force was the only school he'd leave St Thomas for.

Notre Dame was the only school he'd leave Air Force for.

LSU was the only school he'd leave Notre Dame for.

Is Texas the only school he'd leave LSU for?

there's no thinking about it. He absolutely will retire at LSU. This is just pure desperation by Texas
