I hope the SEC loses every bowl game, except LSU of course.

I have participated in the "SEC SEC" chant but it was only to rub it into the opposing teams representing opposing conferences - but I really didn't mean it.

I bought my Texas shirt to wear on the day of the championship game on the slopes. I hate bama and would never cheer for them. Pulled for FL in the SECCG but did enjoy watching Tebow crying. Again.

The way that Michigan and Ohio State have ragdolled PSU since joing the Big10/Add1, you should be mad..

The Lions joining, was a clear line-of-demarcation for the most part in it's decline from perennial national title contender status..sans the Collins/Carter/Engram team that was hosed.

And it has yet to aid in building a consistent Hoops nor Baseball program for PSU.

When I think "PSU Meets Hardware" nowadays..I think Womens Volleyball!

It is a cultural thing, kinda like saying thank you sweetheart at a grocery store or opening a door for a female. I am sure others could give better examples from being from the south. It is what it is, I am sure there are things about being from the North that is cultural as well, that people from the south may not understand or get either.

My 2 cents

This will be the first time I have ever rooted for a team playing an SEC team. But I hope Texas stomps the Hershey-squirting Saban shite out of Alabama. I have heard enough of crap out of their fans, and all the bandwagon fans to go with the born gumps.

Other than that, yeah it's about perceived conference strength. But in the SEC's case it is reality, not preception.

SEC, SEC!!!

Its a southern pride thing you wouldn't understand. For years southern football was looked down upon. It was considered beneath the almighty Big 10 by the media.

I hear you. I couldnt give a rats arse if the rest of the SEC won their bowl games. As a matter of fact, i'll probably be rooting against them.

Our conference foes winning bowl games can only hurt our recruiting.

Im and LSU fan...not an SEC fan.

To understand this "SEC mentality" you have to be of a certain age, understand the concept of regionalism, and understand the derision that the Southern part of this country has faced over the decades.

There used to be, as late as the 1970's a real "us against the world mentality". Our achievements were given less creedence than other regions. How the hell does Bama not have a Heisman winner until 2009 while Notre dame/USC fart them out consistently ? How do our teams get dissed at bowl selection time (until 2003)while other conferences get big matchups.

Of course all that has changed now...

Most LSU fans will pull for other SEC teams except for Bama. True LSU fans will never pull for Bama under any circumstances.

Alabama/Auburn/Team SEC member dominates OOC competition. In doing so, they become more appealing for recruits, and will acquire better talent. When your opponents acquire more talent, it makes it more difficult for your team to be successful.

Why would you root for a scenario that makes it more difficult for your team to be successful?

This.

I hope Alabama loses every game they play. I hope Texas breaks their hearts in the MNC. Our top targeted recruits often list division rivals as schools of interest right along with LSU. I'm with you even if you sign posts like a ghey.

And for the dude arguing Football is regional, exactly. Who cares about national appearances??? WTF do you care how the nation looks at the SEC if all you care about is SEC?

I think many people get annoyed with the SEC talk because its getting hyped into this idea that the best games are played in the SEC, that its "real" football. This years SEC Championship game shows that this is not the case. That game was incredibly boring and didnt show any evidence of being "real" football. A good game can be played between any two teams in any conference not matter the implications.

I think there has been alot of good and alot of bad for schools in the SEC from all the hype. Obviously the money for those schools is good. From an institutional stand point most of the schools in the SEC cant even come close to keeping up with the money that flows through schools like the ones in the Big Ten. The endowment at the University of Michigan is almost as much as all the SEC schools combined.

Many of the schools in the SEC dont get national attention for academics the way schools in the Big Ten do, mostly because the research activities and graduate programs cant compete, so this is there way of getting their name out there. This has also been a disadvantage. I think many people in other parts of the country are getting the perception that the SEC schools are all about football and not academics.

+1 i could care less whether pac 10 teams win or lose. i worry about SC, thats it

Of all fans in the Pac 10 you'd think SC fans would get this concept the most. How many times have they been left out of the NCG?.....due to conference strength?.....point given!

Not sure about others. But here are my reasons to root for the conference since all the actual BCS mess started way back in 2003:

1. I don't want LSU to be in a position that SC was in 2003, ranked #1 in both polls, have the same record as the other team (LSU) that made it to the title game and still be left out of the title game.
2. I don't want LSU to be in a position that Auburn was in 2004 (unbeaten like OU and SC and still be left out of the title game)
3. I don't want LSU to be in a position that Louisville was in 2006 (one loss like Florida still be left out of the title game)
4. I don't want LSU to be in a position that SC or the other gazillion 2 loss teams were in 2007 and be left out of the title game)
5. I don't want LSU to be in a position that SC was in 2008 (one loss like Florida still be left out of the title game)
6. I don't want LSU to be in a position that Cincy or the other gazillion no loss teams are in 2009 and be left out of the title game)

You used an IF scenarios to prove your point saying IF one of those things that you had mentioned had happened, there would have been no conspiracies and hence conference strength wouldn't have mattered. I'm using actual facts to prove that shite happens a LOT (6 times in the last 7 years).
With the perception of SEC being a stronger conference (though heavily marketed by SEC fans and the media some times), I am comfortable going to bed that when other things are equal, LSU WILL not be left out of the title game....EVER :)
You now know why I like to say Geaux Tigers first and Geaux SEC next.
Happy Christmas!

I don't want respect. I want championships. Heck, I'd love to be in the Big East if it meant an easier road to playing in the BCSCG.

Do you have any idea what this says about your program? You can't hack it in the Big10 so you want to join a lesser conference so you have an undeserving shot at a MNC? Does that about sum it up?

BTW, I'll pull for all of the schools in the Big10 except Michigan. From an OSU perspective, I want to see the other schools recruit better and get better. Playing more stout competition is only a good thing - it either makes you look better or exposes you for what you are.

me too, but at the end of the season, if we are on top, i am proud if the west won more than the east. mainly because we fought through it.
