As long as you win it doesnt matter. LSU is fine with recruiting. The SEC having the rep as best conference in the country outweighs the recruiting impact.

Besides, the more the SEC wins, the more recruits want to play in the SEC/go to LSU.

True story, however, it is only the second time that an undefeated, BCS conference champion didn't get in.

Obviously, if you have multiple undefeated BCS conf champs, then that would be a negative of being in a weak conference. That's only happened twice in the 12 year history of the BCS. I like those odds.

What about when multiple teams have 2 losses or 1 loss?

If you lose a game, then you subject yourself to the system, and you have nobody to blame but yourself. Win all of your games and you don't have to worry about it (most of the time. )

I can't speak for all LSU fans but I actually like most of the SEC teams. The only ones I really hate are Auburn & Bama (that just started this year).

As far as recruiting: Louisiana, Alabama, & Florida produce lots of good players...plenty to go around. I'd be more worried about recruiting against Texas since we get lots of players from there.

But to answer your question point blank: if the overall conference looks good, it makes MY TEAM (LSU) look better. So it really is a selfish motive by each SEC team, to be honest.

It's so SEC fans can vicariously become fans of other teams when their teams suck.

It's a recruiting tool plain and simple. When you have five SEC teams in the Top 10 or have SEC teams finish 1,2,3 in the polls then the media talks more and more about your dominance.

Coaches use that to their advantage. Plus it helps all SEC teams because if an SEC team has one or two conference losses they are liable to be considered better than a one or no loss team from another conference.

The talking heads are always saying that "those SEC are all great. They just beat each other up." But in the end, the perception is the SEC is the best. That helps all of the teams (save for Vandy) in many, many ways.

I just cannot root for Bama, but if they win, I will know that it is what is best for the league in the long run.

Help me understand the "Team SEC" mentality that seems to run rampant amongst the fanbases of SEC teams. What does LSU gain by Auburn, Alabama and Ole Miss winning their bowl games?

Please refer to the Civil War... It's still on in our minds...Translated into football is all...

You would have a point if it wasnt for

most of the time.

Besides do you want an answer or not? Dont come in here arguing the answer when you claim you know understand why.

The answer is because it makes your team look better and can help them get into the national championship. LSU 2007 is a prime example. Whats good for the conference is good for you. Teams make more money, the conference makes more money, the schools make more money, the players want to play in that conference.

The SEC schools feel almost like a brotherhood. We have our sibling rivalrys, but we stand behind our brothers when they're in a fight with someone outside the family. Go ahead start with the "everyone from the south is related and we're all doing our sisters" crap. Everyone from the south knows what I mean.

Exactly, but if it is difficult to win all of your games b/c you are in a tougher conference...that will come into play when comparing other teams with the same record OR weaker conferences. For example see 2007.

Ohio State seems to have no difficulty in overcoming that "perceived strength of conference".

Until they get their arse handed to them in a bowl game against an SEC opponent. . .

Then the questions about the Big Ten start to swirl around again.

Or make fun of them when they lose (especially to inferior teams.....see Bama/Utah).

If the answer is stupid, then I will call you out on it.

Whoever had the line about "living vicariously through others when your teams sucks" hit the nail on the head.

And please don't turn this into some "Civil War-da South's gonna rise again-Yanks vs. Rebs" thing. I'm born and raised in South Carolina, so I'm a Southerner by the grace of God. I just had enough sense to not root for a team here.

See my post above. It's about recruiting and postseason jockeying. It works.
