re: Team SEC Mentality

Auburn 2004 is another reason SEC teams need to stick together. They belonged in the NC game over Oklahoma and would have given USC all they could handle instead of folding like a cheap suit the way OK did.
Florida almost didn't make it in 2006 when your Big 10 homers wanted an OSU/Michigan rematch. In Florida's case, the SEC brotherhood helped them gain momentum. Same with LSU in 2007.
Any letup in this conference unity and we'll be back to seeing Big 10 vs ACC matchups in the NC game conveniently leaving out the best team in the country because they're too scared to play them.

I pull for LSU and the majority of the SEC schools as well. A stong SEC benefits LSU. Look what happened to us last year in basketball.
The SEC was not respected and LSU got a terrible seed.

Fast forward to the NCG where LSU easily beat OSU and now the Big 10 is looked at as a joke. Isn't your team in the Big 10? How can this not be a negative?
yeah, that was my point too but it seems to be going right over this guys head.
even though his team has a winning record against the SEC in bowls over the last 20 years (though only 1 win in the last 10) the fact that they are coming from the big 10 hurts their reputation.

I don't care if the Big Televen is looked upon as a joke. I don't care if you think PSU is a joke. We will find out on January 1 if PSU is a joke or not. Even if PSU wins, guess what: our conference still sucks!
You can have the reputation, all I want is to be able to say "Scoreboard."
For all of the gnashing of teeth that the Big Televen sucks, PSU would have been playing for the BCS Championship last year if we don't lose to Iowa.
Maybe it is different to discuss it here, because LSU has actually contributed to the SEC. Living in SC, all I hear is Gamecock fans riding the coattails of others success, and I fail to see the logic of why they want teams better than them to succeed...making it harder for them to succeed.

If you could point to any matchup of Big 10 vs ACC in the NC game, then I would love to see it.

Another reason besides how it can help you in the BCS, is its kind of like fighting your brother when your a kid. When you fight him, you want to kick his arse (SEC vs SEC) But if he is fighting some other dood, you root for him

I'm going to disagree with a few posters who are advocating that the SEC's solidarity has to do primarily with conference record, head-to-head matchups, etc.
While all of that does matter, I believe the most important factor behind the solidarity of the SEC's fan base is shared culture and experience.
This can be difficult for people outside the South to understand, and it's easy for it to be misconstrued, but Southerners like each other. There's an us-against-them mentality that, for better, or worse, is real in the South. Does it have anything to do with the Civil War? Of course it does. The states represented in the SEC, are, for the most part, the Confederate States. Like it or not, we have a history of sticking together against long odds.
(Please save your many and various Civil War arguments for other threads... I believe the South was completely WRONG in the Civil War, and I'm a proud lifelong Southerner.)
Generally speaking, we're all from poor, agrarian states that have been destroyed and rebuilt. We have the shared experiences relating to the Civil Rights Movement. We have common values relating to chivalry, charity and hospitality. We laugh at all the same jokes, like the same kind of music and eat the same kind of food. We hunt, we fish and we play outside. And we're constantly put down and ridiculed by the rest of the nation, which loves to repeatedly point out how backward we are.
So when we win at football, it's a big
to everyone else.
THAT is the root of SEC solidarity.

look im not gonna argue with you on conference superiority. i agree the SEC is best, no big deal to me, again i only worry about SC.

If the Big Ten was THE conference, trust me. We would be hearing about it from their teams fans.

Dude,
Perception, right or wrong, is everything when you don't have a legitimate national playoff. I was born in Iowa and remember the power years when the Big 10 ruled the freaking world. If you wanted your non-conference schedule to look good, you went out and found a home-away with a Big 10 team. Sad...look how far you've fallen. "Have a Great Day."

Had they beat Oregon they would have went to the Rose bowl, correct? So even if they arent second best, there prett close, and they got the shite beat out of them

Strength of conference. The stronger your conference the more likely your team is to get the benefit of doubt from voters and bowl selections.

Not for Penn State fans. Their traditions more closely resemble LSU's than any SEC team (hint: I'm talking about the tailgating).

No, um, it doesn't.

No, we don't.

Yeah...nobody outside of the South knows anything about these things....especially not rural Pennsylvanians.

The SEC or the South? If you mean the SEC I disagree. If you mean the South, you are overexaggerating.
