We still have to win a 3rd game.

Super Regional is best 2 out of 3.

they’re talking about getting out of a regional. Even if we win against a 4 seed without Skenes and win the drivers seat game with Skenes to get to 2-0 in the regional, still going to have to rely on winning a third game to get to the Super.

Coleman then Herring probably. Maybe Guidry or Money thrown in there. Those are probably the only 4 I’d consider using.

All of this, except not Money.

The title of the post says Super Regional.

The problem with that is Jay continues to bring in others instead. Little, Dutton, Hurd, Cooper

As he should at this point. I know your self esteem depends on this, but CJJ is not worried about that.

13 runs should be good enough to win a game. Hell 8 runs should be good enough to win 95% of games.

LSU will unlikely put up 13 runs against any super-regional team.

Quick glance at last year's regionals results (average run total over the series)

ND 6.3
TN 7

Stanford 10
UConn 6.66

Auburn 4.6
Oregon State 4

Oklahoma 8
V Tech 6.66

A&M 4.5
Louisville 3.5

Ole Miss 7.5
USM 0

Arkansas 4
UNC 2

Texas 10.6
ECU 7.33

Of course, it all comes down to matchups, but I think this gives you some perspective on how postseason baseball plays.

Skenes...................I know.

How's about if they both pitch a complete game? Can we have that?

I'm leaving Floyd in until he gets into trouble. Hopefully you can stretch him to 8. Then bring in Coleman.

It will depend on our our 4 seed is but most of those teams are midweek quality, so we won’t need to throw Floyd to win.

It would be awesome, but in reality I believe we have a much better chance winning a non-Skenes pitched game 10-8 than we do of having Floyd go 9 innings. Not a knock against Floyd, its just really tough to throw a complete game in college ball.

USM could be sent to us this year and they probably have a better pitching staff than us yet again. We don’t have a deep enough staff to hit our way out of a regional. There will be teams sent to us who are better than State, Bama, and Auburn
Miss State, the worst of the SEC teams listed, beat USM in a midweek game, and took 2 of 3 vs Arizona State. If they were in CUSA or the Sun Belt, they're in contention for the conference title and firmly in the playoffs, probably on the bubble for a 2 seed.

Alabama and Auburn, in any other conference, are ranked, and probably hosting a regional.
Tennessee is ranked, hosting, and in contention for a Top 8 seed.

The SEC Tournament will be tougher than any regional, and may be tougher than Omaha.

So we’ll be playing teams who are of the same quality as the one who just beat us this weekend? That’s my point. We’re going to see teams who are just as good as the teams we’ve been struggling with these last few weeks. Making it out of a regional is no gimme this year.

SEC action only

ERAs:
Money 4.70
Cooper 5.70
Herring 5.74
Collins 6.35
Guidry 6.52
Coleman 6.75
Dutton 7.71
Ack 9.00
Little 13.20
Hurd 19.29

I believe those 10 were the ones listed on our 27 man roster this weekend.

Johnson has his work cut out for him.

Against a team that is going to be using their 4th best pitcher to start and a bullpen that has already had to pitch in 3 games. I like this team’s lineup to score enough runs in those games.

That works in theory. But LSU just dropped a rubber match against the worst pitching staff in the SEC. And it's happened 2 weekends in a row, last weekend against another bottom half SEC team.

In each of those cases, it was still only the third game either team was having to field a pitching staff. In Auburn’s case, they were throwing their #2 starter after not using any of their top arms in Game 1. In the regional, the opponent is going to have to find enough arms for a 4th and a 5th game and win both. No one is saying LSU won’t be struggling to throw out quality arms in those matchups, only that the other team will be depleted at that point as well. LSU is the best offensive team in the country. They should be able to take 1 of 2 in those conditions even if the bullpen continues giving up 12-13 runs, which they have not done in every Game 3.

They would have won Game 3 against Miss St had Johnson not trotted Little out to surrender 4 needless runs. They just have to outscore the opponent once in two games when they are on their 4th and 5th starters and the bullpen is depleted.

It took a historic meltdown from the pitching staff to lose that game after the offense put up 13. I would bet my mortgage the pitching staff does not give up a 9 run lead in the last 4 innings again this season.
