Under a 12-team format with CCGs, a team playing in a conference championship and making a run from the first round could play up to 17 total games (12 regular season + 1 CCG + 4 playoff).

Under a 24-team format without CCGs, a non-bye team (seeds 9-24) making a run to the title game would still cap out at 17 total games (12 regular season + 5 playoff).

For the top 8 teams who earn a first-round bye, the maximum workload would actually drop to 16 total games.

Reasonable. Off-season calendar still needs to be sorted because coaching changes & portal is still absurd.

I remember when the first argument against a playoff was that the players are students, have tests and 12 games (11 plus a bowl) is already too much as it is

Well yea that’s the only way this works.

Ideal format would be a central authority deletes the conferences & carves P4 up into new NFL-ish divisions / demotes the rest of the schools to FCS, but that’s a completely unrealistic pipe dream.

Top 16 teams getting a home playoff game. Saints playoff games were on another level before Brees retired. I can only imagine it in Death Valley.

We’re talking about professional players now. We no longer have amateur, student athletes. So let them play.

They're going to go back to a 10 or 11 game schedule eventually. It will be NBA 2.0 with two separate seasons. The regular warmup season. Then playoff season where more than half the teams compete again.

This should eliminate half the entire team sitting out for bowl games. The 24 team playoff is going to make all those games matter. The Bowl system was a subjective mess most of the time. The BCS was subjective as well. Now lets let the top 24 duke it out. Why not? The regular season still matters if you want to reach the playoff.

It devalues the post-season implications of the regular season, but I believe the intensity of regular season games will hold up. I firmly believe that college football very quickly changed over the last 2 years to a point where the 12 team playoff system fits the parity that we currently see in college football. I really really struggle to see how parity of this sport can ever get to a point where 24 teams will belong. We've seen an 8 seed win it, a 10 seed only a drive away from winning it, but I struggle to get behind ten 3 loss teams being in. Iowa at 8-4 would have been in last year in a 24 team format, plus another 8 3-loss teams. Boo

They will have to reduce the number of regular season games too, but I think the hardest part for fans will be the travel. I mean imagine having to potentially travel across country three weeks in a row.

Attendance is going to suffer

It’s a made for TV event, like the NFL.

Some people prefer that but the sport would be better off if those people just stuck to the NFL.

NIL, wild west transfer portal, TRO's, no enforceable eligibility rules, no salary caps, no contracts, no consequenses, totally meaningless bowls that good players opt out of. There is no silver lining and a 24 team playoff is the least of college football's problems.

The NFL postseason is at home stadiums until the Super Bowl. Making all these games outside the first round neutral site, is stupid from a fan of the school perspective.

64 teams don’t belong in the NCAAT but they’re expanding that even further purely for money, not because they actually think more teams should get to participate

The bowls are basically dead and the TV people want something to replace that content sooo more playoff games is the answer.

It definitely hurts the regular season, you’re going to lose that tension of your season entirely hinging on one 1-2 Saturdays a year, that will be missed.

Overall probably a benefit to us as Kiffin should have a talented enough roster most years to at least get in.

It won’t go on for too long. It’s a quick fix because they’re losing so much money but the issue is unsustainable long term. It’s dying, the programs are running 8 figure deficits in some cases, the big programs will have to break away and form a league.
