re: SQ: If Etling is that good - wouldn't the coaches have seen it in practice?

Why do you believe that?

Because Les Miles is a stubborn fricking idiot. He probably was going to start Harris all year long regardless but since he's so so desperate at the moment, even someone like him can realize that a change needs to be made by starting Etling, regardless of his love affair with Harris.

It was reported here that Danny was injured for the Wisconsin game. Les himself said the coaches talked about playing him in that one, and that the injury kept him out (two separate comments made at separate times but related and relevant).

None of us know how close the competition was/is and/or to what extent if any Harris had a grip on the starting job.

What's important now is that we're undefeated in SEC play and still have all our goals in front of us. As fans, we should chill with the negativity and get behind our players and our coach - at least until such time as he's no longer our coach.

The negativity surrounding this program right now is toxic.

remember when everyone said that Miles would start Jennings in 2015 because of his love affair with Jennings?

maybe the coaches aren't good at evaluating talent

I wonder if whatever drills they run the QB's through put enough pressure on the QB to make a fair evaluation.

Besides that, Harris' issue seemed to be a loss of confidence which may not come out in practice where he is more comfortable.

it's very possible that BH practices well but loses his composure on gameday, so it's more an issue of BH losing composure than etling not looking good in practice.
I remember seeing threads last season saying how cam cameron was raving about etling

For what it is worth, I was told back in April that Etling looked better than Harris at a scrimmage.

Easy, the answer is Les Miles.

Any other brain busters?

Wasn't his first pass in the Spring game an interception?

It is likely that the competition was close all summer. The only place where things are crystal clear is the Rant.

Yeah he didn't impress in the spring game but neither did Harris for that matter.

The GOAT coach ever chose to start Bledsoe over Brady.

It is likely that there isn't a ton of separation between them in practice and the coaches just stuck with the guy who had been in the program longer and was the incumbent. It is seldom more complicated than that.

I am contentiously amazed at some of our fans that continue to be amazed by Les Miles. Have you not been paying attention to the past few seasons? Just as he trots out the same ole offense, he continues to treat his QBs the same way. Seniority means a lot to Miles, even to the detriment of viability.

How indeed.

Given our PERENIAL team's passing threat failure over the past ten or so years, do you trust anything that you see on the field as it pertains to competence in development or assessment during practice?

I'll put this an even uglier way. Even though you bleed purple and gold and love the Tigers with every ounce of your being, do you in clear conscience, send your Division One Pro prospect QB son to Miles and Co.?

Not me.

Call me crazy, but I believe in the old saying of "if you have two quarterbacks, you dont have one". now I do think Etling is a better QB for OUR system than Harris and should be the starter, but with that said i don't think the QB to take LSU to the next level is currently on the team. I hope I'm wrong.
