Honestly I’d be perfectly fine with Nuss as the starter and Daniels coming in for certain situations. Howard can redshirt.

Not real impressed with Brennan. I just don’t see him starting against Florida State.

Brennan has some choices to make though. He got beat out by Nuss today

It’s a spring game. No one got “beat out” the defenses were vanilla and the lineups were always changing.
We have a solid foundation for a great competition in the fall. The best man will win. Nobody knows who that is right now.

Man that is some serious COPIUM

If what you’re saying is true, Nuss would have already been gone.

But I do enjoy these over long desperation posts.

Not beat out for the starting spot. He was outperformed by Nuss today.

And if you include Daniels running the ball, Brennan was outperformed by him also.

A staff member leaking that one quarterback had a lead, does not sound like Brian Kelly’s alignment

Be surprised if he was told that. He may have been told one qb would take the first snaps or something along those lines.

There’s a poster on the board named “Quesadilla Superman” claiming that Brennan has been told and the team has been told he’s the starter.

Quesadilla Superman

I believe Doucet over Quesadilla Superman.

A LSU qb thread on the rant is about as predictable as a Biden post on the poli board. Biden sucks (which is actually true) so it may mean the qb thread is more predictable. Whoever the backup is is the rants favorite. No football knowledge or proof of why just is.

I know this board doesn't like the idea, but I bet we see multiple QBs playing, probably all three. I would expect Brennan to start on the basis of being the best overall game manager and best decision making (he's the safest choice). Jayden will come in situationally to give us a better run threat. Sometimes it will just be for a play of two here and there, and other times it might be a whole series depending on who we're playing. If Brennan is having trouble, then Nuss will come in to be that gunslinger. The risk is more acceptable when you need to get some points on the board. If it proceeds that way, then maybe nobody transfers out, as they are all getting PT.

If our QB coaching is good enough, this could work, but in the end I guess we'll have to see what BK wants to do.

These spring game threads always make me laugh. Its for the fans. Anything you saw happen today will not play a factor in who starts.

Daniels didn't come here to ride the bench.

Howard is the future.

And what are you basing this on other than seniority, which is a stupid reason? This is just wishful thinking and nothing else. He might start, and that’s fine...but this is not a done deal.

I clearly stated in my post it has ZERO to do with seniority. Has everything to do with having a Qb that can make any throw on the field along with embracing the field general role which I didn’t see in 2020. I was hugely skeptical of Brennan coming back and thought he’d be better off at another program but his improvement is night and day compared to the last couple seasons. I bet you’re one of the queers who said Johnson had the “it factor” last fall and Brennan just didn’t have “it”.

And to be brutally honest Daniel’s is too quick to abandon the pocket and doesn’t make his progressions. He thrived in a spread offense early at ASU but Kelly will not be running a spread offense like Daniel’s is accustomed to. He’s got an incredible arm but doesn’t trust it.

And by the time fall roles around Nuss may very well set himself apart. He can throw the ball with confidence and tuck and run when the pocket collapses. He has skill set similar to both Brennan and Daniels. He’s not as fast as Daniels and not quite as polished as Brennan throwing the ball but he gives the best of both worlds.

I also had the opportunity to watch these guys in spring practice a good bit, which I’m basing my opinion on and conversations I was lucky enough to have 2 formal quarterbacks who attended practices that offered their thoughts. A lot can change between now and fall but Brennan is in the drivers seat.

ETA: Kelly will also not be running a 2 Qb system full time like he’s done at ND a couple times. He will specialize a couple special packages where we’ll see a Qb other than starter come in and get snaps in certain situations.

This competition is going to come down to 3 things come summer/fall:
Film room- who's sitting in the film room and pointing out things they see from opposing defenses or what they did wrong or right.
Playbook-whos got a better understanding of the playbook
Practice: who's preforming best in practice
Can't take too much away from the spring game because we don't know what plays were being called and what defenses they were playing against the 1st team defense wasn't out there the whole game, so it could be, and I'm not saying it was, that nuss was going against 2nd team defense or pieces of 1st and 2nd team and that's why he looked better.

If you listened to Kelly's post game presser you will know he saw the same things. He gushed about Brennan's arm and what he could do. The he complimented Nuss on making so much progress.

His comment on Daniels: "He's fast."

And some of these posters want the guy with the weakest arm and poor accuracy to start at QB. Sorry, but Brian Kelly is no Les Miles.

Quesadilla Superman has spoken.

So it is written. So it will come to pass.

All hail the man, who is also a quesadilla, who is also super.

How can you include "running the ball" in a game when touching the QB was forbidden.
Personally, its hard to dislike any of the QBs, they are all friendly and team oriented.
It was clear, to any objective person, Nuss had the best day.
However, Kelly doesn't just make the decision based on what we see. He knows when the execution was flawed no matter if the play was a success or failure.

How can you not factor in what you saw from him on the ground? Is the yardage number accurate? No. But overall performance wise, it’s kind of ridiculous to not include the aspect of Daniels looking absolutely dynamic running the ball. Those are things Brennan can’t do.

If you’re going to throw out his ground game completely because he couldn’t be tackled, just throw out the entire game because guys couldn’t be sacked either.
