Yep, a 24 team playoff heavily waters down the regular season games. Each game won’t be near as important as some teams will easily still be able to make the playoffs with 3 losses. Maybe 4.

Nothing like having a 13-0 conference champ left out.

24 will be great.

This is getting out of hand. College football had an amazing product, and the people running it keep finding new ways to make it worse. If we’re heading toward a playoff with 20-plus teams, why not just call it the NFL’s B league and be done with it?

And while we’re at it, get rid of the SEC Championship Game. In an era of an expanded playoff, it’s becoming irrelevant and serves no purpose.

[quote]ou not only need to scrap the CC games you will need to cut back the 12 game regular season. maybe back to 11.

In a 24 team playoff I would imagine the top 8 get a bye. After one weekend of games you are down to 16 teams. Those that won will have to travel to the top 8 homefield.

Guess I'm one of the few who loves going to 24, FCS has done this for years, and obviously they dont have bowl games like FBS does, the issue is all those teams just on the outside looking in of the 12 team playoff basically treat their bowl game like an exhibition with players sitting out and it's a joke.

This gets way more interesting competitive games that keeps those players playing and makes for way more interesting games to watch. Fact of the matter is conf title games are already kind of moot with the first expansion of the playoff and if you're going to add some playoff games, they definitely should be eliminated.

With 24, every conf can get an autobid without much hesitation so its more true NCAA tournament style and on top of that SEC/B1G gets even more bids into the playoff having the most top teams overall that generally get left out of a 12 team.

I know barely anyone follows FCS football, but for someone who went to an FCS school for a while and follows FCS football some, their playoff for years has blown away FBS postseason. Top 8 seeds all get a bye and you have on site 1st round playoff games between seed 9-24. They can very easily make the 1st 2 rounds of the FBS playoff on campus games.

I don’t see a problem with it. NFL sends 14 of 32 teams to playoffs. You will have upsets from 20-24 playing 9-13 teams. Will be exciting weekends leading up to the finals.

Did you even read the OP? That’s exactly what they’re trying do right now, and I’m glad. It’s a pointless and stupid game now.

I agree. Most of the dumbasses on here have no foresight.

Some of them will inevitably say “but 2023 Florida State got blow out by Georgia in the Sugar Bowl!” and completely ignore the fact that most of FSU’s team opted out to get ready for the NFL draft after learning they were left out of the CFP.

In 8 years it’ll be 64 teams just like baseball and basketball, and the 65th team will still bitch that they got screwed out of a possible title.

That’s when you add a “play-in” game, duh.

The CFB regular season is what made it the best sport in the world. Now when those games means less, it diminishes the value.

Those in favor of more and more playoff expansion fail to realize it comes at the cost of the high intensity week to week high wire act that was the CFB regular season. Think of all the classic games in the past. The top 5 conference matchups. The huge upsets that derailed a top team's season. I can think of dozens off the top of my head. Now name 5 classic NFL regular season games.

And if more teams in playoffs is better, then why stop at 24? Hell let's go straight to 48. 64. 128!!!! MORE!!!!

The BCS had it right. We should just use that with a very limited playoff field

I don’t pay attention to the nfl until mid November, unless I’m betting on games before then

It is money but it’s survival money. We’ve read the reports of the LSU admin running a huge deficit and that’s nation wide. They’re desperate to increase revenue in any way they can. It’s not sustainable but they’re looking for as much short term relief as they can get.

On the PGA tour the guy who missed his tour card for 2027 missed by 2 spots. 2 extra birdies anywhere through the year. Maybe even his first tourney. Every shot. Every play. Every game means something. Maybe not to you but to others it’s still a huge deal.
