With Randy's supposed Australian connections,

Does Livingston have Australian connections? I would think his big draw would be New Orleans where he was a legend in the early '90. Plus, does LSU really need an Australian connection? Simmons obviously was big and Reath was ok last year (though he was a Texas JC product), but otherwise the Australian connection hasn't set the world on fire. Malone left after 3 ineffective years. Hayward showed a little bit here and there, but didn't set the world on fire.

LSU's Australian ties were limited to David Patrick. LSU isn't St. Mary's. There's more than enough talent in the South and the US. LSU doesn't need to make a special effort to keep any sort of Australian pipeline

Well it probably guarantees a sellout for the VCU home game. They will by hyped to mercilessly boo Wade.

It (a) guarantees VCU would get a home game vs. a likely power conf. opponent or (b) forces the new coach's school to pay $250k to get out of the game if the new coach doesn't want to face the uncomfortable situation of going back to his old arena. Either way, VCU wins

I'll leave it up to Wade if he wants to keep Livingston, no one from that regime deserves a "you must keep him on board!"

5'm just glad that all the assts were canned, giving Wade the opportunity to fill his staff with his hires. I think this hire is sending waves out to the rest of the SEC . If he can hire the recruiter he wants we will be a force immediately.

Both Reath and Heyward are Australian. So those are pretty good pick ups. I like having a few out of state guys and a couple of International players. It gives the team more diversity and broadens the talent pool. Thats important for every major program..

which begs the question....if Wade wants to keep Livingston did Livingston receive a buy out and then would need a new contract?

Livingston has spent the two years prior to coming to LSU living in Australia and running an Australian and New Zealand scouting service and coaching youth basketball.

He and David Patrick are friends and I think he hooked him up.

And yes, international connections are crucial in present day college basketball. Australia is one of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the world. Kentucky, Louisville, Marquette. Miami and Duke all had Australian players. It's not just St. Mary's any more.

Wade is expected to retain LSU assistant coach Randy Livingston, a former star player at LSU who was initially let go two weeks ago with the rest of the staff when Jones was fired.

Per guilbeau. I like that if true.

Good move, Randy is still a big deal in New Orleans and I had no idea his connection to Australia was so significant.

VCU always packs the gym here. It is hard to get tickets when they play anyone. But, I will do what I can to get tickets to that game. It could get ugly since both my kids went to VCU.

Won't be next year since we are already playing them in Hawaii

The Siegel Center rarely sees a name-brand team.

I agree Wade needs total control over his staff. I'd like to see a national type recruiter and a Deep South (LA/TX) guy.

It sure would be nice to see a fundamentally sound bball team again.

I wouldn't have an objection to bringing Larry Cordaro back as an assistant given the job he's doing at LSU-Alexandria. He's recruiting Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas and Mississippi pretty well for having a program that didn't even exist three years ago.
