1- Wake has been wholly unimpressive offensively in this series. Their "legendary" offensive numbers were put up in an inferior league and pitching (to the SEC) playing homes games in a matchbox ballpark.

2. If Skenes starts tonight he will be on a hard limit pitch count & WILL NOT be available for the Champ series outside of maybe 25 pitches on Monday if it got there.

3. Everything comes down to walks and HBP. When we stopped doing it they stopped scoring when they started doing it we started scoring.

4. Soemone besides Skenes is going to have to throw strikes tonight and probably going to have to do it for 5+ innings.

5. Our offense is still better than theirs is (even with Thompson and Millazo)

In the court of popular opinion there will be a riot if Skenes doesn't start. But based on the above you know what you're giving up if he does.

The thought of giving our offense a chance to go win this early with Hurd (whose FB they couldn't hit the other night) while having Skenes on red red alert is not as ludicrous as some might think.

One of their hitters even admitted this in the press conference last night after the game. Said they need to adjust how they hit.

You have to limit Skenes to 70/80 max for him to have a chance to come back Monday for maybe 25 max in relief

After Skenes tonight will be the key, who is gonna step up, no walks, make them earn it

I'd love to have Skenes for Saturday but I 100% believe that the only way he doesn't start tonight is if he's completely off the board. No need to hold him if there is a possibility of using him, you give him the ball first and tell him to save as much of the bullpen as possible!

When is the last time Skenes pitched in a reliever role.

I think many of you advocating this do not understand the mind-set difference between a starter, long reliever, and closer.

It is not always easy nor a good idea to switch guys. If Skenes is going to pitch, start him and run him until you need to switch. No hard pitch count based on the "hope" that he may recover to pitch a few Monday.

If Skenes starts (which I will now be very surprised if he doesn't) he will throw well past 4 innings unless things are going very poorly for him.

Hell, in 4 innings his will likely have a pitch count under 60 pitches.

I made this post this morning, but I was honestly surprised at just how much smaller Wake's field is than the Box and Omaha:

Wake / Box
LF: 310 / 330
LC: 370 / 365
CF: 400 / 405
RC: 367 / 365
RF: 300 / 330

Seeing more and more of this. If Jay stays consistent with his 9 AM text to the starter, the team already knows.

After 3 games in Omaha, Wake Forest has scored only 8 runs (2.67 runs per game) and are batting a lowly 0.198.

Hard pitch count won't be based on him coming back Monday. Hard pitch count is there because that's what his insurance carrier, the trainers, and arm science tells them what it needs to be. Remember this kid is going to be a multi-millionaire soon and the guys that are prepared to write that check make the rules. I don't care if he's got a perfect game going, he's not going over 60-65 pitches. Monday has no bearing on it.

I get all this to a certain extent, but the number of pitches will likely be more like 80-90. On 4 days rest at his age/strength/size, 80-90 pitches should still be safe.

I'd take the over on 60 pitches for Skenes!

For your # 4 - you think Skeenes throws less than 4 innings:

I will take the over on 60 for Skenes' pitch count. Likely not a full game, but I would say IF he starts he pitches a normal game for him.

Time will tell.

Not sure why someone downvoted your post lol

I watched WF play and they hit bombs. I didn't see any that barely cleared the 300 or 310 down the lines. All of the teams in Omaha are struggling offensively including LSU.

If the wind blows out that will change.

I watched the Wake/Bama game when Wake hit 9 Hrs. Every home run they hit would have been out of the Box. They were hitting HRs into the trees. They have a small park but don't under estimate their power. If the winds blowing in at Schwab it probably won't matter.

I don’t think it matters as much as we think it does. The other guys & the pen are going to have to show up to win it all whether that is today or Friday/Saturday.

I would lean toward starting Hurd & seeing how the first inning goes if Wake weren’t also starting their ace.

The wind was also blowing out. Any and every decent pop up was a homerun.

I agree. There are still a lot of factors like wind. I also think being the visiting team for this game will factor into pitching decisions.

Does Skenes want to show he can come out of the bullpen? How does he feel about it? If Hurd starts we can see how far he can go? Maybe just maybe we jump out big.

Wake will throw their ace and have almost their entire staff available behind him. I would love to see LSU jump out big early, but it will likely be a similar game to Monday.

Let Skenes follow his normal routine and give you what he's got.
