He could have answered that question the same way he answered it before and it wouldn't have been an issue. Instead he went public either trying to put pressure on the AD or out of some weird moment of honesty.

Transfer portal additions didn’t hit like they did in 2023 and 25. Also Evans and Schmidt didn’t have the sophomore jump Anderson did in 25. Cooper Moore injury also hurt.

I’ve also heard they screwed Jay out of his national championship bonus last year..

Those things are written into their contracts, there's no way to "screw him out of it". It's cut and dry unless Jay has the worst agent on planet earth who didn't get it in writing.

Which to a retard like Pirate King is the equivalent of Jay intentionally floating the idea.

I think it's as simple as the team lacked leadership. I don't really see Milam as a leader. He certainly leads by example but he's not a vocal leader. Curiel you can kind of see some leadership qualities in him, but I can also see some of the guys kind of tuning him out as well.

The team got hit in the mouth in a midweek game early on by a far inferior team and they just never recovered. They followed that up with even more weak losses to bad teams and a series loss. They didn't have the "short memory" that everyone talks about with sports. They had an opportunity to turn things around after that incredible game against Tennessee but they followed that up by getting swept three SEC series in a row.

That's what teams with poor leadership do. It was also obvious that there were some transfers who were more or less guaranteed playing time. Eventually and after far too long, they were so bad that they were finally yanked off the field.

If anyone can correct it it's Jay Johnson, but there is no doubt that he felt like he was coaching a bunch of grown children this year.

Just saying what I was told by a reliable source, while I do agree and do think that may have been a stretch of the story I 100% believe the other portion

I don't think there was anything "off" if by that you meant clubhouse tension.

I think there were about a half-dozen serious factors of which had any one been different, we would have made the field:
1) Portal letdowns. Had any one of Yorke, Carraway, Simpson, or Dardar elevated their games.
2) Injuries (Moore, Stanfield, Jake, and then Serna).
3) Complete collapse on the mound. I'd be a little surprised if both the eligible staff and Yeskie returned.
4) Too many options for Jay to sort through. Crazy lineup changes.
5) Pitching mismanagement. This may sound in tension with #3 but it seemed there were times when Jay made head-scratching changes.
6) The season dynamics. When we really needed the team to support our pitchers through the low points, we instead booted the ball all over the field and multiple players started slow (Cade, Derek, Milam) so weren't scoring runs. Later, our hitting did improve as did our fielding, but not our pitching.

If I had it my way, I would like to see Jay part ways with everyone and do an entirely new coaching staff. I want to see some energy and fresh ideas injected into this thing.

If we lost to Little Rock last year there is no doubt that would have happened.

So 13 teams in the SEC spent more than LSU?

Dont bring logic into this. Also the argument of "jay didnt have enough money for the portal" doesnt work when multiple guys that were here last year regressed.

Its okay to admit that Jay misevaluated some portal additions and coached poorly this year while adding in the fact that the team had a ton of injuries, some bad luck, and no real player leadership.

The "we didnt have enough money" is a lazy argument that gets thrown around for any sport that we underachievers in

Sometimes good talent has bad seasons. That’s it. Some didn’t develop like planned, some didn’t play to expectations, some were in over their head.

The majority of this entire thread is as bad as any reality tv show made up drama. Most of these responses cannot be grown men.

Yeah this we don’t have the money is a lame excuse. There’s no way 13 teams outspent us.
We made poor evaluations, and the portal additions, especially at the plate we’re trying to show out for the scouts and not really playing team ball.

I’d add terrible defense - from our top level catchers, for one - inexplicable, and from our infield excluding Milam for two. That kills momentum, and hurts pitching when you did what was needed to get out of an inning only to have someone drop a ball or make an errant throw. It’s like they never practiced fielding and our catchers came from little league instead of tops in Texas. Makes no sense.

I don’t feel like anything was off other than the talent level. We just weren’t very good.

The talent on this team isn’t good enough to win a natty, but it certainly exceeds their record. That part is undeniable. We can argue all day about how far this talent should have gone, but no one can honestly think that 9-21 is an acceptable SEC record with these guys.
