So what went on behind the scenes with this baseball team? Who has the scoop?

This was the worst LSU baseball team since 1981. I know we had injuries. But something else seems off. Like we didn’t have any player leaders in the dugout or something. I heard some of the players only cared about NIL and used their cell phones in team meetings. Truth? What happened here?

I don’t feel like anything was off other than the talent level. We just weren’t very good.

I think the money aspect had a lot to do with it.

A lot of players who should have been leaders that were more focused on their individual goals instead of the team's. A head coach who inexplicably floated the idea of himself leaving for the MLB midseason.

I'd bet there's a lot going on that will eventually come out when kids start transferring.

Willing to email it just to me?

Tregrej@bellsouth.net

I won’t share it. I’m just a die hard fan, and I’m disappointed.

Clearly there was something goin on, which is why Jay Johnson threw the team under the bus after the Texas a&m series when he basically said in the post game conference he whiffed on the portal and the season was over

I agree and I could not believe Jay did that. It was out of character for him, and great coaches seldom trash their players public ally. I agree. That signaled something was off.

I will tell you, LSU baseball has an assistant AD that’s over them, him and Jay butt heads because he shorts them on funding.. I’ve also heard they screwed Jay out of his national championship bonus last year.. not sure how true it was but it came from a pretty reliable source is all I’m going to say

This is why Jay threw the MLB comment out, it’s also why he threw the portal guys under the bus ( while I don’t agree with it) it was a way saying he wasn’t given enough to go out and get top tier starting talent..

Also a lot of players were playing selfishly at the beginning of the season, once that quit the offense came around especially when the freshman started playing…

Hoping this was a Woodward screw up and verge fixes it

I missed Jay talking about going to the MLB. What did he say publically?

Really hate that if true, used to be what made college sports great is the heart and intensity put into every season by the coaches and players

You’ve managed to start a thread that is an absolute retard magnet.

Do not take any of the replies here seriously except for George.

There's really no scoop other than the roster wasn't constructed in the best way.

I expect Jay to make some major overhauls in his program in the coming weeks. Jay likes to tinker.

Paraphrasing, but he was asked about leaving LSU and he said he had no interest in leaving "at this time", but that he hasn't been offered an MLB job yet. Said he'd be watching what happens with Vitello. Make of that what you will.

He could have answered that question the same way he answered it before and it wouldn't have been an issue. Instead he went public either trying to put pressure on the AD or out of some weird moment of honesty.

To summarize. Reporter asked Jay about it.

quote:

Right now, I have zero interest in that at this time. Now, that's at this time. I haven't been offered an MLB job, is what I would say. I'm fully into this and there's a lot that we need to do to be the best we can be and I want to be the best program in the country forever

Edit:
I think context is lost in this is because of the question asked. “Have you ever been interested in becoming a mlb manager”. I think that if the reporter asks him with more of a present tense, he probably doesn’t include the part where he said he has never been offered.
