He threw 77 pitches in 7 innings of work. He doesn’t have amazing stuff, but he seems calm and collected out there.

6 days and some hours seems like enough rest that it wouldn’t mess up the rotation.

I think Jay will stick with Hurd since we are still pre-SEC. It’s a different type of pressure (some say less) when you are on the road and Hurd did really well last year in some big situations.

I think Hurd really benefited from having Skenes as a mentor. Seemed like Hurd really looked up to him and fed off Skenes.

He doesn’t really have his circle and seems to be getting too emotional on the mound

He’s gonna have to work through it. I think he can. If not, I’m curious if he would go to Jump first out of the pen.

I hope so. Holman is the best pitcher on staff right now. Hurd should be Sunday guy moving forward.

Youre still seeing pitchers who will get a redshirt at the end of the year. Hurd won’t leave the weekend rotation anytime soon IMO, based on numbers. Baseball isn’t a sprint.

Holman would be on 5 days rest if he goes on Friday.

If you play, you can't redshirt. This is baseball.

Johnson said in an interview last week that he doesn't really want to move guys up in terms of their rest days this early in the season.

Hurd clearly has it in him to be as dominant as any pitcher. He proved that in Omaha when he held that potent Florida offense to 2 runs on 2 hits & 7 Ks through 6 innings of work in the championship game.

The thing about Hurd is, you don’t know if you’re gonna get 2023 championship game Hurd……or 2 1/3 innings with 6 hits and 2 walks Hurd.

This is my bet as well.

Jump should be on a pitch count of 75 pitches or so. If that gets you deep enough you go to the bullpen if it doesn’t you can bring in Hurd to bridge a couple innings.

It somewhat bothers me that Holman’s last pitch was around 2:45 on Saturday. If he pitches on Friday at 7PM, he would begin warming around 5:45, which is over 6 days (147 hours), but only 5 days of rest for baseball.

He got 5 days “off” (Sunday - Thursday), but 6 days of “rest”. Ok, rant over.

Holman is the best option for Friday vs Texas.

Out of the 3 games. Friday is the one I want to win the most. I can live with losing to Tx State and ULL before I could with losing to Texas.

Bring Holman out. Get the dub and let Hurd go for the W vs ULL

Holman does have amazing “stuff”. There is more to “stuff” than velocity and spin rate. Having multiple pitches, being able to hit spots at will with those pitches, and pitching inside and out all qualify as amazing “stuff”.
