the bad outing in the SEC tourney made Omaha necessary I think

I had a thread on all the numbers that I was updating weekly, but it's all just simple math now.

Skenes needs 24 strikeouts in 2 games to pass up Ben. Pretty simple.

The strikeouts per 9 record is 16.8. Skenes is at 16.2. Unfortunately I don't think he will be breaking this record. Depending on the number of innings he pitches moving forward (from 7 to 9), he would need 16 or more Ks per outing to break the record. Possible? Yes. But not likely.

I will add this tidbit though. Ben had 202 Ks in 152.1 innings. Based on Skenes average, if he pitched 152.1 innings he would end up with 274 Ks! The record for Ks in a season is 234.

I am not OK with it as Ben pitched way more innings than Paul. Skenes year is much better than Ben by far and if he breaks the record will mean he pitches 2 games in Omaha, which means we have a great shot at winning it all.

Please break the record for total, but per SO per 9 innings its all Skenes!

I don't think he will be breaking that record. He would have to strikeout 16 or more per outing.

Big Ben threw his arm off for LSU to the detriment of his pro career.

9 years in the Bigs with a sub 4 ERA isn't a horrible career.

no, not Hall of Fame worthy, but its respectable.

No doubt, but he spent a good portion of that on the injured list and had an early retirement.

Ben got tattooed in Rosenblatt against Stanford. If Skenes wins in Omaha....he is the GOAT.

I say he just get 20 against Kentucky in Saturdays game and 10 against the volunqueers or southern miss in Omaha.

I just want the team to win the whole damn thing. I could care less if Skenes breaks the record or not.

Ben played 3 years of baseball here. Even played 1 year of basketball. Skenes is a 1 and done...

Ben did more and meant way more to the progress of LSU baseball....Hope he keeps the record

I hope I get to see him break the record and win the CWS but I wouldn’t retire his jersey. I’d consider retiring Crews’ though for the same reason you said. He’s only worn the P&G for one year.

If Big Ben keeps it that pretty much means we won’t have won the championship

I'd be fine if he doesn't get the Ks as long as he can go deep into any game he pitches in.

That song has already been sung.

The other thing is just based on what Skenes does and how he retains strenght and velo in his starts I think he is a guy that could have been used as a workhorse like Ben was if we were back in the late 80s/early 90s. I know that's frowned on now and may, or may not, have had anything to do with Ben's relatively short-ish trip to the show, but I think Skenes could have done something similar in terms of innings pitched back then.

Being that he's basically done what he has done and has been used like he has (basically with his pro career in mind) I think he is as set as anyone could be to have a long dominant MLB career.

If this means Skenes will get 3 or 4 more outings that would be fine with me. He will have deserved the record.

I want Skenes to get the record.

It's really quite simple, and I can't see how anyone claiming to be an LSU fan would want otherwise:

Skenes is NOT a guy who gets a bunch of groundballs. If he's not striking out 8+ guys a game, he's going to be in trouble.
Skenes is our ace, and far and away our best starter. If someone at this level knocks him out of a game with 3-4 strikeouts, we lose at that level of the postseason. We MAY advance against Kentucky if they steal game 1, possibly.
We are toast if he loses in Omaha.
If we advance to the finals, and he loses, we are done then.

I want him to have 3 double-digit strikeout games, and take that record, because that means we have made it to the finals and are likely 1-0 after he finishes.

The way it’s lining up, it sure seems like Skenes breaking the record = LSU wins it all. Naturally, I hope he shatters it
