Safety: Chad Jones, Jamal Adams
Cb: Patrick Peterson, Derek Stingley
Star: Tyrann7
Just missed the cut, Laron Landry, Tre White, Mo Claiborne
Who’d I miss?

Eric Reid and people sleep on how good delpit was even with the dip at the start of the 2019 season.

You picked the correct 5.
Delpit has ton of accolades. Greedy and Steltz were both All American too.
Edit: yep, I’m swapping out Chad Jones for Laron. Laron Landry is the correct pick. Chad Jones is the stuff of folklore though, loved that guy.

Good list. Laron Landry is the best strong safety I ever watched at LSU. And we have had some great ones.

I like Chad Jones and he’s a great player, but he wouldn’t be on my two deep of safeties.
Laron, Jamal, Delpit, Reid, Steltz, these guys were tackling machines, and consensus All-Americans and award winners. Chad Jones isn’t at their level.

Just missed the cut, Laron Landry
Landry was a consensus all American, two time first team sec and the hardest hitting safety we ever had.
Safeties: Landry and Adams (Reid and Delpit as reserves
Corners: Peterson and Corey Webster (Claiborne and Stingley in Reserve)
People forget that Webster was a 2 time all American a 3 time first team sec, a national champion, a two time Super Bowl champion, 16 interceptions (second in LsU history behind Chris Williams)
Nickel/Star/everyman: Mathieu

Picking the best safeties is really era/offensive philosophy dependent.
Are we facing Bama pre-Kiffin? I want Chad Jones, Laron Landry, Craig Stoltz, or Jamal Adams in that order.
Are we facing the offenses of the last 2010’s? I want Delpit and Adams for their versatility, speed, and coverage skills against TE’s and bigger slot wr’s.
CB’s is Peterson and then a really tough choice between White, Stingley, and Delane.
Star has to be Tyrann right? Who else is in the running here unless you want another safety like a delpit or an Adams.

We have had an embarrassment of DB riches when you consider that some of the “runner ups” in this list, if they had played at another school, would probably be on their all time starting list, not just 2000s.

People forget Stingley had one good season at LSU. So are we talking Webster/Stingley at LSU or are you factoring in their pro careers too…

The two time consensus 1st team all American with the 2nd most interceptions in lsu history is crazy talk?
Stingley basically played one year at LSU.

It's not crazy talk. Corey Webster was a beast. I'm not saying Stingley wasn't good... Corey Webster was a wide receiver when he came to LSU, switched after his freshman year and ended up being a beast...

Webster had a better career at LSU with more accolades. If I'm picking one to start, I'm picking the 2x first team all-pro. Stingley had a bizarre career due to several factors post-2019, but was also a consensus 1st team all-american as a freshman and led the SEC in interceptions. He's an absolute freak and is on a hall of fame trajectory right now in the league.
I love Corey, but he's not as gifted as Sting. There are lots of guys that had amazing careers at LSU that I'm not putting in an all-time starting lineup.

webster is so slept on.
Stingley obvious if the better talent, but Webster has a significantly better career hear and a good career in the Pros.

Brandon Taylor should be in the conversation.

The best two-way player was clearly Jack Hunt. Will never forget his game winning catch against Kentucky.
